Gerry Adams 'Questioned For 17 Hours A Day'

Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams is being questioned for up to 17 hours a day during his interrogation by police in Northern Ireland, Sky News understands.

Mr Adams is undergoing a fourth day of questioning after being arrested in connection with the 1972 murder of mother-of-10 Jean McConville, who was snatched from her home in front of her children.

Sources close to Mr Adams, 65, have told Sky News Ireland Correspondent David Blevins that "most of the questions are about IRA membership".

On Friday, officers were granted another 48 hours to quiz the republican party leader at Antrim police station. They must now charge or release him by 8pm on Sunday.

Mr Adams vehemently denies allegations that he ordered the murder of Ms McConville.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson has accused Sinn Fein of attempting to blackmail the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) over Mr Adams' arrest.

Sinn Fein's decision to sign up to support the PSNI in 2007 was viewed as a major milestone in the peace process, but the party warned it will review its backing of the police if the veteran leader is charged.

Mr Robinson said: "The PSNI must not be the subject of republican bullyboy tactics.

"The protest action taken by Sinn Fein is unacceptable in any democratic country operating under the rule of law.

        Get Meat-Head to question him.

He'll confess to anything within 30 minutes!

The last person in custody on questioning kept says any thing I will say will be wrong; the old bill ended releasing him on the grounds of brainless.

Gerry Adams Declares Innocence After Release

Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams has again stressed he was not involved in a notorious IRA murder as he was released from custody after four days of questioning.

He was freed without charge after being quizzed for 96 hours by police investigating the murder of mother-of-10 Jean McConville, who was snatched from her home in front of her children in 1972.

Mr Adams, 65, told a news conference in west Belfast: "I rejected all of the allegations made against me."

He said he did not eat during the first two days of his detention and was "concerned about the timing" of his arrest which came before local and European elections.

"Let me very clear - I am innocent of any involvement in any conspiracy to abduct, kill or bury Mrs McConville," he said.

"I have worked hard with others to have this injustice redressed and for the return of the bodies of others killed during the conflict and secretly buried by the IRA, and I will continue to do so."

People fighting wars don't kill helpless mothers, and those that do end up at war crimes trials at the end of it, especially those that were in command. So he was held while being questioned, lots of people get detained at HM's pleasure while being questioned nothing new - though they don't make threats to withdraw support for the police.

Any one that believes the IRA were fighting a war are as brainwashed as their followers. They are nothing more than a bunch of glorified extortionist. Making the leaders rich on the backs of those too stupid too see. The same goes for the Loyalist side. Taking money under fear from their own people and killing the innocent. Playing at stoking up hate over actions that happened centuries ago. As if no other civilised country hasn't had attrocities inflicted on their own peoiple.

The Irish have fought wars on and off with brittain for over 800 years in the name of freedom from oppression and illegal occupation............if Gerry Adams is convicted for the murder of Jean McConville then the head of the parachute regiment that murdered innocent unarmed civilians on the 30 jan 1972 (or Bloody Sunday) should also be dealt the same cards. This is a political stunt contrived by those both north and south of the border who now fear SinnFein will do them massive damage in the upcoming elections............I am not a bigot nor do I condone murder or violence but I do feel strongly about the illegal occupation of part of my country by brittish forces.......we love the britts as neighbours and we need you as much as you need us......we should be unified fiscaly and economicaly........I hate Europe and this country is ruined by bureaucracy delved out by eurocrats who want to control every aspect of our lives.

Adams was being questioned about the ABDUCTION TORTURE & MURDER of an innocent mother of ten - nothing to do with election ! Adams has history - a very cruel and extensive evil history AND IT WONT GO AWAY U KNOW !

If you look at the history of the whole of the UK and not just Ireland you'll see that there's been plenty of wars fought on the mainland by the Irish, Welsh and Scots against each other, all leading to individual countries and areas being controlled by those not belonging to the country conquered. What is someone who classes himself as Irish anyway ? If you go back far enough there wasn't such a thing as Ireland. It's a made up country by people who've claimed the land as there own.
