Irishman in Dubai to be deported for flicking his middle-finger at a motorist

An irish teacher is set to be deported from his home in Dubai after losing three-year legal proceedings following a conviction for flicking his middle-finger at a motorist.

7 days in Dubai reports that Conor Hayes will be jailed for one-month for public obscenity before being deported.

Hayes has been living in Dubai for the past 11 years and was well-known in the Irish ex-pat community for managing an Irish football team in Dubai and orgainsing the city?s Rose of Tralee competition.

The incident happened on a night in January 2011 when Hayes and his wife were exiting a taxi and the driver of car behind them beeped his horn and flashed his lights. Hayes was convicted of showing him his middle finger during the incident.

Hayes was also reportedly fined close to ?200 for consuming alcohol without a licence and lost his job two years ago because the court held onto his passport resulting in the loss of his visa.

As a result of legal fees for numerous appeals and lost income , Hayes estimates he is down close to ?120,000 as a result of the incident.

?No matter what happens, I would still promote Dubai to my friends abroad. I and my wife love it here, that?s why we fought so hard against the conviction, but options are running out,? Hayes told the 7 Days in Dubai paper.

Hayes wants to stay in Dubai and the Irish community have begun a campaign to have him pardoned because they say it is the only way he will be able to remain.

Sorry for him, however is it ok to do something in Ireland that's illegal in Ireland, but legal in the guests country?

Is it legal for someone from Holland to buy and smoke cannabis in Ireland?
Can the Chinese skin and cook dogs in Ireland without fear of the law?

Have to agree..................you must obey the laws of the country you are in............deportation seemed a bit harsh.........I bet the sentence is based not on the act of raising the middle finger but more so on who was it raised at..........probably a sheik or family member who wanted to flex their might at the insolent paddy who dared to challenge his authority and status.

If there's one thing all countries have, no matter which country, it's a plentiful supply politician's with double standards who can tell half truths while looking people in the eyes. We tell Russia how nasty it is for taking back Crimea quite peacefully when the people in that country voted for it, yet we quite happily bombed Libya, invaded Iraq and invaded Afghanistan without batting an eyelid. Even worse we supplied the arms to al qaeda when it suited us and they were in Afghanistan fighting against the Russians. Sorry about this next one..... in the 70's and 80's we had people in the US supplying arms to the Irish to kill us, how friendly is that then? We had the US selling arms to Iran so they could give the money to another bunch in Latin America to fight another government, this despite Iran having took US hostages fgs. As for human rights, we dig at China for having the great firewall and monitoring internet connections etc, what does the UK do - are we any better, is the US any better? I doubt it very much.

As for his friends demanding a pardon for him so he can stay, does queenie ever hand any out? no she cking doesn't. When you commit an offence in any country do you 'demand' a pardon, daft way to say "sorry, I didn't mean that, can I stay please?" if you ask me.
