Have to ask why supermarkets aren't using paper bags instead of plastic *shrug* Despite rumors, all types of plastics can be recycled, just that councils was collection agencies are 'picky' and only want to pick up plastics and waste that they can make easy money on by selling it on without having to do any work. The whole industry is a scam to make the most money for doing as little as possible. I seem to recall it was Gordon Brown who wanted the carrier bag tax, Tories and Libs now passing legislation for Gordon as well? Anyway the tax is more money in the governments pocket.

Mr Clegg said he hoped any money raised by the levy would be donated to environmental charities.
Hoped? he's having a cking laugh.

If they made the bags out of hemp or paper there wound not be a environmental problem

But that's not what they want to do. It's highly unlikely it's a 'green' issue, more like they just want to scrape more in taxation and it sets the scene for taxing anything made of plastic since no-one has kicked up a fuss and pointed out paper bags would be the way to go.

Isn't the whole environmental movement all about money. About the plastic bags. They want you to use reusable bags but if you don't wash them after carrying meat you can get sick and die. Government needs to stay out of private business.
