New UK laws on cyber terrorism could jail hackers for life

The UK government revealed new plans this week to punish computer hackers more severely, with certain types of cyberattack to be met with life sentences.

Under the serious crime bill proposed in the Queen?s speech, hackers who carry out attacks resulting in ?loss of life, serious illness or injury or serious damage to national security, or a significant risk thereof" would face life sentences.

Meanwhile, amendments to the 1990 Computer Misuse Act would raise the sentence for cyberattacks with "significant risk of severe economic or environmental damage or social disruption" from 10 years to 14.

Karen Brady, minister for Organized Crime, said the proposed amendments were necessary considering our increase ?reliance on computer systems? and the ?grave consequences? that could arise from an attack targeting critical infrastructures.

With new laws coming out every month I can only see 88% of citizens behind bars for life and I wonder if there is a war, who will be fighting for our country? Taking into account 20% are women’s. !!!

Since the government are in denial about prisons being overpopulated anyway (after they closed a few) they may well end up putting the innocent ones in jail and leaving the crims outside, since it would be much cheaper. IN reality it would be better to turn the Palace of Westminster into a prison at least then they'd have the biggest crims inside already.

yea, put everybody behind bars...then see what happens..kaos......myself, I still use a vpn service ( noirvpn.com, in case you ask) and feel 100% safe that I'm under the radar and will able to roam free,drink beer and surf as i see fit... while everybody else is in lock down...

GCHQ can, and probably do, collect everything that goes out of the country or comes in. Chances are they've routed all internet via one router outside the country so that everything loops out and back in just so they can say they don't need a warrant, twisty slimly way to do it. Sounds like something they've already done *shrug*
