BSkyB is expected to announce an increase in subscribers and an operating profit of around ?789m when it reports its full-year results this morning.
The company's long-term threat is the internet, say experts
The pay TV and internet service provider, which owns Sky News, has proved remarkably resilient in the recession.
But rising unemployment might soon start to have an effect.
Sky's rivals have also managed to attract customers in the downturn.
Virgin Media now has 3.6m subscribers, and BT Vision around 500,000.
The worry for Sky is that regulator Ofcom wants it to offer rivals its premium content at a hefty discount.
Adam Daum, an analyst at Gartner, says football may have made BSkyB profitable, but he does not think it is as dependent on the game as it once was.
He predicts the company will thrive in the short-term, but believes the single biggest long-term threat is the internet.
He added: "Going forward we're going to have fibre-optic technology and fast-stream high definition broadband.
"At that point any company can become a broadcaster."
