If this guy managed to hack 97 government computers including the impenetrable pentagon computer, then instead of trying to jail him, they should consider giving him a job and getting rid of some of those so called boffins.
Why did'nt he hack something useful...like S*Y!!!

why should they give him a job..?? he's broken the law..
should they give bank robbers a job in a bank as they know the weaknesses..?
if an american had hacked into MI5 or MI6 then we should have the right to trial him in the UK..
he hacked into 97 government computers, it wasnt a one off

They should count themselves lucky he hacked their systems. At least they now know their weaknesses. If a competing nation had hacked them then what? There is no way anybody would be going to the US for a trial and there would be government secrets out of the bag.
If the computers are online it should be their own responsibility to keep them secure.
They should be thanking him imo.
Obviously I don't condone hacking. If he had been malicious and tried to sell things on or do damage then sure he should be punished but the guy didn't really do anything.Comment

a crime is a crime.. he did it 97 times.. and stands accused of causing $800K worth of damage..
saying.. "Its ok he didnt really do anything" doesnt wash.. kids that pelt houses and cars with eggs "dont really do anthing" but they still need to face the concequences..
you cant start saying one crime is ok and another is bad..
looking at pictures of men shagging kids isnt "really doing anything" but i doubt you'd be as tollerant..
if you knowingly break the law like this guy did then you get everything you deserve

well if that is the case 99% of all on this site should be locked up, once we put a firmware on any box are we not hacking ????a crime is a crimeplease press the little red THANKS tab
if I helped
if not press the green tab to tell me to f**Koff

yes and if i got busted by the police i wouldnt have a leg to stand on..
if you know the risks then you cant complain when you get caught..
this guy is a pro hacker, he knew the risks, now he must pay the price
i do over 70mph on the motorway, i know if im caught i could get points and a fine..
i wouldnt expect the police to offer me a job in the Road Unit
if you knowingly choose to break the law then you cant start backtracking once your caught..Last edited by opsmonkey; 4 August, 2009, 01:10.

employing ex con's - comparison to another case
Funny enough that speilberg film, (To Catch a Theif) about Frank Abagnale Jr the Master Conman was on tv last week. After conviction in the US courts, Abagnale Jr served 5 years of his total sentence before the US authorities approached him for early release dependent on him consulting on how to stop/prevent cheque fraud. 5 years later!
The only shocking thing about this 'asperagus kid' case is the hoohar the British press is making about it, as opposed to the extradition treaty itself. They all kept their traps shut when the Government brought it in and now one white suite middle class tw&t looks like getting extradited I can't hear myself laughing above the hue & cry of the press.
In the not to distant future, this odd fellow will no longer worry about the possibility of little green men, as his main concern will be big orange suited men.
I do think the authorities will only seek help from ex-con's if they can't keep up with the rate/speed of the crimes in question. Even if this eek does his time (he should get time)
in the UK after several years of constantly trying to prevent himself being fhacked his IT hacking skill might be a bit ropey. And on a realistic side he'll have a very sore butt and probably won't want a job sitting down.
I'm now gonna try and illegally download a copy of the charity record they made for his defense fund, sweet!Comment

thanks for the link, followed it and learned some. I wasn't mocking the condition but the man. I am very cynical about this particular case as he went his entire adult life life without the condition until he got himself in to a shed load of trouble. And then uses the diagnosis to help mitigate his crimes.

I don't see how he could have caused $800,000 worth of damage just by hacking into the systems. Surely if they needed to upgrade their security because of the hack, then it wasn't up to the job and needed replacing anyway, he just exposed that fact, he didn't cause it.Comment
