Meaty, I generally take junk mail, pop it in an envelope, address it back to the company, write Urgent Documents enclosed on it, and don't put a postage stamp on it. At most it cost me an envelope and I'm sure the companies enjoy paying the cost of the stamp and the time to open it only to find their own junk mail.

As for the question of putting the cost of tax on fuel; that time is close. At this time a lot of newer cars are rated at between ?0 and ?50 for yearly road tax, do you think that the government of the day won't pass up the opportunity to say "well we have lost money due to car tax being low, so now we'll up fuel duty by 15% per year to cover it" ? Hey at least ?38 billion a year from motorists, excluding speeding tax, isn't enough.

That would be the UK government being a tax that was imposed many years ago and they're slowly going to add to the price of fuel, though you won't find that in the Daily Mail or Express - since they have no fingers to point at Europe. So you're happy to pay more for fuel to provide the government with even more money that they don't spend on the roads and road maintenance? A few other interesting questions are going to be

1) "If electric cars become more widely used where will the government get their money from that people used to pay in fuel duty?"

Can't add it to the price of electricity, since that will affect normal consumers.

2) Will there be sufficient supply of electricity to be used for cars and consumers with homes?

Currently, as has been written about many times, we have been close to brownouts for some time now. Therefore if everyone swapped to electric cars tomorrow we would not have enough supply to allow people to use electric kettles, fridges, lights etc

3) If the government does decide to tax electricity, how will they tax those that put up their own windmill to generate electricity, or those that generate using solar panels?

and lastly.......

4) Electric cars are green are they? htf do people think the electricity gets generated, by mice running round in wheels? (same will go for hydrogen btw, but that's another story.

So all in all the end of being able to tax the motorist to death is in sight. Where with the government of the day make up for lost revenue? - answers on a postcard to someone who cares.

Only once they sell the road network off will they do that, so the new owner can make a profit you understand. I seem to recalls Dave's lot are busy studying both of those and have been for a while. I'm surprised that he hasn't sold of the Highways Agency yet, although his mates may still not have milked all the contracts for road building and maintenance yet, but there's still time. Once they have the roads that you paid for over the years will be sold and you will have the opportunity to buy shares in something you paid for as well as pay more to have them maintained and built. That's why the government has been encouraging councils, who fit CCTV all over for your protection against crime and terrorists obviously, to ensure that the resolution is good enough for ANPR - I did read a while back the government will give councils more money to do this.
