Road Tax Disc on windscreen and everyone can see, but until there is an ANPR camera on every road and in every Police car in the country nobody knows if a car is taxed or not. Plus the nonsense of cancelling road tax on a sellers car so that the new buyer can then insure the new vehicle and then with proof of insurance apply for the road tax, no doubt dead easy to do at the weekend or after 5pm of an evening.
If it ain't broke don't fix it. They were too busy trying to save pennies to notice that it would haemorrhage pounds, no doubt those responsible will be promoted out of the way.
