I think this is long overdue. Also a Test for cyclists before they can use public roads. It's crazy everyone else has to pass a test and cyclist don't need to pass anything yet when an accident with a car and cyclists the driver has to produce, license, insurance etc and is often breathalysed and the cyclist nothing! Come on

OH! I passed my Cycle proficiency test in 197* I can assure you it was a very difficult test to pass at my age! I even did it without stabilizers you car drivers need four wheels and you still fall of your car regularly. I even got a Metal badge for it as well. All you motorist get is a piece of plastic and think you own the roads.
I later when on to learn to drive a car that was much easier. I also later learnt to drive a Tank that was a piece of pish all you need to know was how to flatten things and fire the bang, bang !!

NB have you ever tried riding a bike after a few beers its very hard

There is a difference in learning to do somthing & thinking you know how to do it! Learning to drive wither it be a plane, tank, bicycle, car is not all about the vehicle your driving its about safety. and some cyclist and motorist shouldn't be on the road. A test in place would make the roads safer for all & an identification will simply identify a particular incident for all party's.

It would also help to identify them as when they undercut buses and get squished beyond facial recognition. It might help cut down on cycle thefts and the compulsory insurance will cover accidents and theft.
You and Nara are bloody mad! You obviously haven't got passports coz you haven't seen how efficient European towns are! One more cyclist is one less motorist.
And the twits in road planning that pat their own backs by saying we have created X amount of miles of cycle paths with a bucket of paint, ought to have their OWN 10 year old daughter ride down the 'cycle path'.
Cyclists can be a nuisance.. cycling correctly on the road when there is a wide pavement at the side of him. But the law says get off the pavement, and do your 10mph in front of that Artic.
Rant over.. until I read the rest of this thread.

Sorry Gas, I never fully read your post.. I had red mist in my eyes

Well Meat-City you find random signs saying. End of cycle lane. And cyclists dismount etc etc, but no start or stop signs, but if you start at one end, no end of lane.

i tweeted Arnold but hit fobbed off, then some poncho got fobbed off then no reply, to where cycle routes are.

i have since found the info but not ACUTALLY studied it

OK... I can understand this. I half agree, high profile, be seen and be safe. How about a flashing red rear light?? Oh.. That is not the law, a solid red light that can be confused with any light in the distance is law.
                      helmets must be worn
Why? what difference does this make to anyone other than the cyclist? And that is his choice
flashing LED lights on front and rear wheels
That is not the law.. Although I agree entirely. Again be seen and be safe.
                      ?25 for cycle licence
?25 eh? why? who is gonna get that ?25?
break law, cycle crushed 100 hours community service or 1 year jail or 6 months service in iraq
Cycle crushed??? why? I hate vandalism. Any willful destruction of something that is working, sound. why crush a perfectly good cycle? At worst, sell it and give it to charity, but where in your tiny mind do you condone willful destruction?
I also am confused by your propositions... I think you will do well in a political position.

                            In what way?
I read your posts, and i dont agree with them. In my eyes, a cycle is an extension of walking. Sooooo.. now, when you see your kid do his 'from stabilisers to two wheels' trick... he has to have a licence and insurance?

I've wandered around the Haugue and a few other places, cycles are all well and good in towns, however in the UK cyclists seem to forget they are road users and as such have to obey the law and the highway code. Perhaps it's just the few I see trying to get themselves killed in generally nasty ways as they ignore red traffic lights or undertake large trucks without looking to see if the truck is indicating left... As for cyclists they wouldn't have a road if it weren't for motorists paying out something like ?40 or ?50 billion each year. There is room on the roads for everyone, but everyone has to obey the same rules/laws etc otherwise they should be prosecuted. If the only way to get rid of the bad cyclists is to make all of them to be easily identified then so be it, then those that do obey the law will perhaps get a better 'rep' with the rest of us.

I'm a motorcyclist as well fgs, I take my life in my own hands every time a taxi driver spots me, especially those basseds who drive Pug 406's
My master plan is to live forever..... going to plan so far
Despite the cost of living, it's still very popular.
                              No good deed goes unpunished....
