Fitness-to-work assessment backlog could take 18 months to clear

Maximus Health Services, who took over from Atos, says it will carry out assessments in a ?timely manner?

The backlog of fitness-to-work assessments for benefits recipients could take as long as 18 months to clear, according to the company being brought in to deal with the problem.

Maximus Health Services UK was awarded a ?500m three-year contract that starts in March, after Atos Healthcare ended its contract early following criticism about the number and speed of assessments it had carried out.

More than 600,000 appeals have been lodged against Atos judgments since the work capability assessments began, costing taxpayers ?60m a year. In four out of 10 cases the original decisions are overturned.

600,000 appeals lodged and costing taxpayers ?60m a year, obviously M.H.S they will take longer because they will probably be able to rip off the government for more money, this is an American company as well, they have been taken off their contract in Chicago (2013) makes me think!!!!

Maximus sound like the perfect replacement for ATOS.

** October 2000 - Six state lawmakers in Wisconsin called for the termination of MAXIMUS' W-2 contract, saying the firm has "broken faith with the state and poor people the agency serves in Milwaukee County **

** July 2007 - MAXIMUS settled a lawsuit brought against it by the United States government for involvement in falsifying Medicaid claims for $30.5 million **

** October 2010 - MAXIMUS was awarded a $2.5 Million a year contract to run California's confidential "diversion programs". MAXIMUS contracted the work out to a subcontractor who in turn subcontracted the work to another company.

That plus numerous lawsuits taken out against them because of discriminatory work practices, shows that Maximus are a company with no morals.
In my opinion someone within our Civil Service who has the power to award these contracts is on the take, otherwise companies like Maximus, ATOS, G4S, Capita and others would not be touched with a barge pole, because they have been shown to be unfit for purpose and totally unreliable.
