Petrol to drop to ?1 a litre, says Goldman Sachs

The price of a litre of petrol will drop to almost ?1 in the coming months if oil prices remain low, putting more money in people's pockets and encouraging consumers to spend.

Kevin Daly, senior economist at Goldman Sachs, said the falling oil price would boost consumer confidence even as wage growth remains weak and uncertainty clouds the global growth outlook.

Mr Daly estimated the price of a litre of unleaded petrol could fall to ?1.05 in the coming months, from the current UK average of around ?1.20, according to Petrolprices.com.

Brent crude edged down to $66.50 a barrel on Tuesday, and has fallen more than 40pc from its June high of $115.

What i wonna know is why we the people are TAXED 3 times for the same product?

1 taxed money used to pay for fuel
      2 tax put on fuel
3 emissions tax for using the fuel

      Off Topic

Why is a hybrid car exempt from paying road tax??? the thing still burns fuel to run a generator to power batteries or is it because it doesn't make any CC's/RPM?

thats all it should be any way, the country would boom if it came down to that and stayed there, but all the gov is interested in is the tax, if it wasnt they would reduce the tax on petrol.

Doesn't matter whether a car is electric or hydrogen powered, they use power stations, using coal/gas/oil to generate the electricity used to power the ckers anyway.

I suspect the tax rates are being lowered on such cars so that the government can say that now less cars are paying tax that they need to collect tax per mile to justify a further milking of the motorist cash cow. That would be the reason that more and more average speed cameras are popping up all over the place so they can trace every mile you have driven to send you your invoice and sending you that important speeding tax invoice should you make that mistake as well. What about they'll make most motorways Toll Roads to make up for cheaper petrol.??
They've probably got that idea in the pipeline already.

They have looked at selling off major roads anyway, think they're still wondering how much profit their mates will make and whether they'll get free shares and directorships in those companies.

David Cameron unveils plan to sell off the roads | Politics | The Guardian

The prime minister will say: "We need to look at innovative approaches to the funding of our national roads – to increase investment to reduce congestion. Road tolling is one option, but we are only considering this for new, not existing, capacity. For example, we're looking at how improvements to the A14 could be part-funded through tolling.
"But we now need to be more ambitious.

Why is it that other infrastructure – for example water – is funded by private-sector capital through privately owned, independently regulated utilities, but roads in Britain call on the public finances for funding?

Why? because his f**king party sold them to private companies to fleece Joe Public - ffs is his memory so sh*t he can't remember what his party did?

You mean like the Dartford crossing the toll ends because the cost has been recovered, so now they introduce the remote payment scheme...no free is it!!!

Same as the Humber Bridge, at least the toll is now reasonable, 0 cost for my bike , though still ?1.50 for a car. They're now making more money because they have more traffic crossing than ever before. I dare say they'll raise the toll again sometime. At least now 50% is finally paid off the tolls may be able to raise enough to pay the rest and maintenance.

Petrol price diabolical even at ?1 an litre, I remember when petrol was ?0.50 a gallon that’s 10p litre mind you my wage was ?7.00 a week if you compare now just over ?5.00 a gallon do you really think petrol should be that expensive? The oil companies are greedy, in future I can see only the rich will be driving cars…..
