British forces going back to Iraq: Hundreds of UK "boots on the ground" set for retur

As the threat from Islamic State warlords spreads throughout the Middle East, it could see UK forces dragged back into a conflict the Government declared over in 2011.

As the battle against IS continues, the prospect of ground forces being called up again now looks inevitable.

Today, it has emerged that despite assurances from David Cameron, Britain will now send soldiers numbering in the "low hundreds" back to the country.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said: "We have not finalised numbers yet - obviously we have got a lot of kit back from Afghanistan that we can make available - but we are talking very low hundreds."

The U-turn comes after an eight-year operation in Iraq which saw an estimated 100,000 Iraqis and 179 British personnel killed.

In 2003, the decision was made to go to war and more than 46,000 soldiers were sent to fight in the controversial conflict - costing the country ?10billion.

I don't care about the tax tbh, if they didn't spend it on that they'd only waste it elsewhere. What I disagree with is our service personnel being used like pawns to further the political ambitions of any party or MP, no matter which party. It's those folks who will be put in danger.. Seems the only lessons learned by MP's is that warmongering gets you re-elected and you don't have to pay the ultimate price and the other lesson is that people forget lies and re-elect you anyway.

Well said GastonJ mate, those solders going to fight are all our children going on the order of our politicians some may not come back, some with life time injures and when they come back they are forgotten our govt will not help them if it’s the money they are going to save why send them in the first place!!! I feel sorry for our arm forces.

I agree 100% but I now think that the abominable massacre of those school children in Pakistan has at last now woken up much of the Muslim world to the fact that these murdering scum hiding behind the name of Islam need to be eradicated.
I believe that a World Wide Force needs to be assembled and a unified effort made to flush out these murderers.

Those children’s died direct retaliation of Pakistani solders going in Taliban’s area killing women and children’s, any solders killing women and children’s are war crimes and those murderers must be brought to account on both sides to stop this kind of atrocities taking place again.
