Gunman murders two NYPD officers in Brooklyn before shooting himself

Two New York City police officers were shot and killed on Saturday afternoon as they sat in their patrol car in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighbourhood of Brooklyn.

In a Saturday evening press conference at Woodhull medical center in the borough, NYPD commissioner Bill Bratton, his voice cracking with emotion, named the two officers killed as Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.

Bratton and New York City mayor Bill de Blasio both said the officers had been killed ?execution style? and described their deaths as an ?assassination?. ?There is no more emotional time for a police officer,? said Bratton. ?A death of this nature, an assassination, it?s unlike any other type of emotion. It?s hard to deal with.?

Bratton said the gunman, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, had made ?very anti-police? postings on the Instagram social media site and these were being investigated.

The killings sparked an angry outburst from the leader of the city?s main police union, the Patrolmen?s Benevolent Association. Pat Lynch, president of the PBA, appeared to blame the deaths on the protesters who have taken to the streets of New York in recent weeks and on De Blasio, the mayor.

In a fiery press conference outside the hospital doors, Lynch said there was ?blood on their hands [of] those that incited violence on the street under the guise of protest ? [blood] on the steps of city hall, in the office of the mayor?.

However I do have to add that the murder of any human being should provoke a strong response, not just the murder of police officers. If the police can only react when one of their own gets killed, what message does that send with regards the death of non police officers?

Saw a tweet last night which said NYPD held a ' support your Police' gathering and no one turned up. The police later managed to assemble a handful of people to take the bad look off things.

Crying as it's a law man.being killed... law men killing innocents kids is an ok thing... as far as am concerned this was coming tbh hopefully no more killings now

I'm pretty certain no one said "killing innocent kids is ok." The police in the USA have a difficult and dangerous job. They're not paid to attend celebrity parties, drive buses or stack shelves. They deal with mainly the vermin in society. Assaults, junkies, shootings stabbings and any other thing that society wants to put a stop to. A friend of mine in the police says the majority of the people he deals with have long criminal records or are the victims of crimes against them. Nine out of ten of the criminals are vermin. He says he's got to treat everyone that's accused of a crime as possibly guilty as he'll be hammered if they go free and commit more crimes. He still treats them with respect but takes everything they say with an element of doubt as he gets lied to daily. By treating everyone the same he stops more crimes and protects himself and the community. Where the evidence is true the accused get off. The guilty get banged up. If he treated everyone as telling the truth the streets would be far more dangerous then they are now. Just look at what happened in the USA. The blacks were all over the papers and TV calling themselves victims for the way the Police treat them. Remember out there they have a fair share of non white police also. So what do they do to prove how law abiding they are? Riot and loot shops, ypu couldn't make it up. They complain that a disproportionate amount of them are in prison yet when you look at who commits the most crimes guess what colour comes up at the top. It's too easy to play the victim and want help but you've got to help yourself also. There's plenty of places in the USA where blacks make up the majority of the population. They have black mayors, policemen, teachers etc. Yet still their kids leave school uneducated, the streets are full of junkies and crime is rife. Crimes and drug we need to look into it why this is happening, killing criminals has not stop crimes.

I have been reading crime stores for over 50 years and I can tell you the worst crimes committed by white people in our cites is unimaginable, have you ever heard black person serial killer, have you ever heard black person caught with 1 million to 100.00 million dollar drugs in hand? It takes the authority?s very long time to catch the big fish because of wealth protecting them.

We have those black lads selling drugs in small quantities, most of them in in dept, they need to be arrested taken to police cells and they need to find out were the real culprits are, instead getting shot by the officers we are not going to stop those evil market in our cities.
