New generation of ?stealth? speed cameras planned for Britain?s motorways

A new generation of ?stealth? speed cameras are being rolled out across Britain?s motorways.

The new traffic devices are double the size of the bright yellow cameras but grey and more likely to blend into its surroundings.

They will be deployed on ?smart motorways? including the M1, M4, M5 and M6.

The cameras, which are already present on the M25, will enforce variable speed limits when the hard shoulder is used as an additional lane at peak times.

The Highways Agency intends to roll out the cameras on an additional 15 stretches of smart motorway still in the early stages of planning.

It comes after agency published the outcome of a consultation on plans for smart motorways on stretches of the M1 in South Yorkshire and Derbyshire.

However, Derbyshire Police voiced fears over the use of the hard shoulder for traffic as they would not be able to carry out roadside checks.

Jeremy Clarkson gets first speeding ticket in 30 years ? just a month after complaining about speed cameras.

    Clarkson a knob.

Ok that's great, but in 2010 when mhm had a visit to birrrrrrrrmingham the signs said 50, so driver slowed to 50, then all the traffic seamed to crowd the coach, making the driver feel uneasy, speed up to 70 no problem.

Had it happened within 10 miles of meat city, would have stuck at 50 and hoped for a pile up.

no speeding invoices came, but would have been contested on the grounds of safety

All that talk of safety, you made me post this now, please don't do that again

The cameras are being fitted all over the M62 as well now. Unsure what happened to SPECS3, the network version of average speed cameras, but there were plans to start planting them all over, even on slip roads. That also fitted in with replacing road tax with road tolls, to include no doubt the speeding invoice should you dare to speed.

That's wrong speed camera on slip road.

as for networked speed tax cameras, you could say that's 'good'.

you have a car that never leaves its home town, never speeds, going on summer vacation for a week or two, hits 85 on motorway, so what, have a nice vacation.

as for dpf shite, think somebody tweeted 90mph to clear them.

        Gaston, is this fair?

Drivers get 3 points and ?100 fine for speeding.

dawg walker gets ?30 for letting dawg shit on sisidealk.

what about dawg walker gets ?100 fine and 'points' on their NI number?

Would be much fairer if the dogshit was grilled, served up to the miscreant at a cost of ?100 with an extra ?10 for each centimetre they failed to eat.

That is exactly what has happened on the M1 around Luton, the slip roads at Junction 11 for Luton & Dunstable are too short for the cameras but Junction 10 for Luton Airport has the average speed cameras on the slip road and just beyond. It's just for money making as they know there will be plenty of uninformed drivers heading for the airport. They will also get ripped off again when they reach the airport, because they will have to pay ?2.50 for 5 minutes to drop people off, try dropping them off anywhere near the terminal and they will be on cctv and will receive a ?60 ticket.
