Council tenants offered cash to buy

Council house tenants will be paid a cash sum of up to ?30,000 to move out and buy a home on the open market under an ?84 million Government scheme.

The funding, announced by Chancellor George Osborne, will apply to residents who could otherwise exercise their right to buy the council home in which they live.

The cash incentive offered to tenants will be lower than the discount they would get on the price of their council home under the Right to Buy scheme but is aimed at people whose current property would not make a suitable purchase.

The Government will offer ?84 million over two years from 2015/16 to fund the scheme in England, although similar incentives are already offered by some local authorities.

The funding will allow councils to offer a one-off payment of ?20,000 - ?30,000 in London - to eligible tenants in place of their Right to Buy discount to enable them to purchase a property on the open market.

The incentive could even be topped up to a higher amount by the local authority.

Under the Right to Buy scheme, people with five years' tenancy are offered maximum discounts that currently stand at ?77,000 outside London and ?102,700 in London, with an average of around ?45,000 off the price of the property.

A document issued by the Department for Communities and Local Government inviting councils to submit bids for the new fund said: "Some social tenants who are able to afford to exercise their Right to Buy are prevented from doing so because the social property in which they live is not suitable for their needs, or is difficult to mortgage.

"Older tenants may wish to move to a different area to be closer to family or into more suitable accommodation; working age tenants may want to move closer to employment opportunities; and some tenants struggle to get a mortgage, for example because they live in a property of non-standard construction.

"The Government wants to help tenants trapped in social housing as a result of these barriers to access home ownership."

Election bribes to try attract non Tory voters is right. The rest of people who scrimped and saved to get a deposit to buy their own house can just f**k off and foot the ?84 million bill then eh? Conservative policy seems to be to fool people into thinking that house ownership and rising house prices (and a lot of the time debt) makes people rich. When in reality if you bought your home for ?100k 10 years ago and it's now double in price you're no richer in relation to everyone else who did the same, since even if you sell your house for ?200k you need to buy another and guess what, house prices have doubled. What they government should be doing is getting the 240,000 houses a year built that are needed, but they won't because it will mean that with more houses... house prices won't go up because there'll be enough for everyone. kin stupid game of making sure that those with money keep it and those without have even less money, or more debt.

            This is from 2013

On 10 May 2013, the prison population in England and Wales was 83,151. On the same date Scotland’s prison population was 7,798 and Northern Ireland’s prison population was 1,848.1

Around 50% are there for less than 6 months.
Around 20% are in there for life
Around 10,000 on remand, holidaying for free while they wait to be give a slap on the wrist
43 will never need a house, because they arent getting out

1,300 under 18's in custody, so their parets will probably still be claiming child benefit etc

It costs around ?37,000 a year each to keep them in.

            I'll let you look http://www.prisonreformtrust.org.uk/...onthefacts.pdf

?37k a year, would be cheaper to pay them all ?25k a year to all those that end up there for shoplifting and save ?12k a year. Who says crime doesn't pay? Perhaps the government should cap prison costs the same as they do benefit claims and feed then break/water letting them sleep on the floor instead. Either that or adopt a "pay for yourself to be in prison, or die" approach

Northern Ireland’s prison population was 1,848.1

This reminds me of the 'sick' emerican joke of the couple with two children who when the third child arrived, born with no arms or legs, the couple said they were happy to be the typical emerican family with 2.4 children.

The joke is armless enough, so you don't have a leg to stand on

The real answer on that is

The government don't seem to keep any real figures on that, since they aren't on the electoral register, so can't vote, so why would any government give a f**k about how many are homeless, more so the current one who would have them put in workhouses given the chance. Obviously workhouses run by private companies who are either owned by their friends or they have shares in. Dickension Britain is not dead, it's just been waiting at SW1H 9HQ until the time is right.

However there are reckoned to be around 53,000 homeless in the UK, though I should add that include the kin idiots who, even when they get a place, get evicted because the can't be bothered to pay their way. The latest plan from the government , if they win the election, is that they will not assist anyone under 25 who leaves leave home, so all those living at home being abused by sick parents on drugs, drink whatever will have to stay and put up with it.

Far from living the life of Riley, most of this group are parents in a generation already facing social exclusion, says Duncan Shrubsole

                    Good old Tory family values.

I'll skip the 30,000 to move out and take the 35% discount and buy my council home 130,000 -35%
                      =45,500
