New Parking Ticket Rules End 'War On Drivers'

Drivers are to get ten minutes' grace before being given a ticket if they stay too long on council parking spots.

The changes in the law in England are expected to come in within weeks and will apply to all on-street and off-street council parking spots.

Other measures in the Deregulation Bill include a right for residents and local firms to demand their council reviews parking in their area.

CCTV camera cars that automatically issue parking fines are to be made illegal - apart from in areas near schools and in bus lanes.

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles said: "We are ending the war on drivers who simply want to go about their daily business.

"For too long parking rules have made law-abiding motorists feel like criminals, and caused enormous damage to shops and businesses.

"Over-zealous parking enforcement undermines our town centres and costs councils more in the long term."

Fines at out-of-order parking meters when there is no alternative way to pay will also be scrapped.

And councils will also be given more guidance that they cannot use parking fines to make a profit.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: "These measures will deliver a fairer deal for motorists and help boost the high street by ensuring that parking enforcement is
proportionate, while also protecting schoolchildren and keeping key routes and bus lanes clear."

You forget, it's almost election time. Lies and deceit are a way of life for MP's while elector memory loss is in force.

Still be folk that will stay right 'til the end of the extra 10 min, then complain if they're given a ticket.

So the tw@ admits his government were at war with motorists? I'd have driven a tank had I known

And councils will also be given more guidance that they cannot use parking fines to make a profit.
Guidance, that thing you don't have to adhere to. Our council is about to introduce bus lane cameras (on profitable routes), has just started to help fund speed camera vans and will be offering courses to anyone over speed limit (it's not about fund raising honestly), increased the cost of residential parking and ticket anyone who thinks of parking - let alone actually does it. Do you think this is a council that will take such guidance, or think about how much it can raise in the fastest way possible?

Guidance indeed, means Pickles doesn't get in a pickle with councils because he isn't telling them they "have to", but motorists will think he's on their side even though he's been at war with them

In my job we have dispensations for parking.. traffic wardens walk past without even looking..

However, if i was to park on a council run car park that's a different story.. it becomes a game of cat and mouse.. The other day i was nearly caught but the wardens had stopped about 10 cars up and had a natter! I've only ever received 1 parking ticket from a council in my life.. even then i passed the bill on to the customer! ..

Parking is a game of cat and mouse.. some you win some you lose.. it's all part of the game! changing the laws won't change a thing. people will still take the risk and moan
