Zimbabwe's exchange rate is 64p for 35 quadrillion old dollars - and here's what you

Exchange rate: In 2003, the black market equivalent of US$1,000 was approximately Zimbabwe $5m

Imagine if your bank balance had a figure followed by 15 zeros - you'd consider yourself very lucky and rich indeed.

But the exchange rate in Zimbabwe will see locals trading quadrillions of local dollars for a fistful of US dollars next week.

The hyper-inflation of 500 billion per cent the country suffered suffered seven years ago played a part in elevating the country's currency, which is now exchanging at 35 quadrillion (35,000,000,000,000,000) Zimbabwe dollars to one US dollars, or about 64 pence.

At the height of Zimbabwe's economic crisis in 2008, prices were rising at least twice a day, and Zimbabweans had to carry plastic bags bulging with bank notes to buy basic goods like bread and milk.

The southern African country started using foreign currencies like the US dollar and South African rand in 2009.

Meaty deal: The Magrosa offers two sausage rolls for $50,750,000,000,000,000 each - or 94 pence

The highest - and last - bank note to be printed by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe in 2008 was 100 trillion Zimbabwean dollars, which wasn't enough to ride a bus to work for a week.

The RBZ have told customers that if they have old Zimbabwean dollar notes they can walk into any bank exchange them.

But what can Zimbabwe dollars buy you?

Local shopping website www.magrosa.com offers two sausage rolls for $50,750,000,000,000,000 each, or 94 pence.

A pot of Bovril is $107,450,000,000,000,000, or around ?2.

Toilet cleaner Duck Active is $102,550,000,000,000,000, equivalent to ?1.90.

And latex gloves are $107,450,000,000,000,000, or ?2.

Bbbbbut "1985 band aid". "2015 band aid" "Water aid" ?3/month supplies an entire village with water.

Does that make sense why I charged a customer from your country an extra ?5 for a certain job?

Why thousands of money has to be donated for just supplying entire village with water, just give then crowbars and they will dig water to entire country for free…

These would of course be wheelbarrows without wheels as the wheels will have been nicked
The tyres will have been turned into shoes

Obviously you will note though that Robert Mugabe and his friends are not suffering in any way, and have no shortages of anything.

Since when did love have the same meaning as fear. Both 4 letter words I suppose. When you can only vote for one person then you have no choice to elect that person, since if no-one else voted in the country he'd vote for himself and still be 'elected'.

A far cry from when I lived there in the 70's.
The exchange rate in 1978 was just about on par with the UK pound.
Everyone had a job and access to medical treatment.
Yet another example of a once prosperous country ruined by corruption and nepotism

Is there not a "factory reset" at the bank reset to 1978 values

No because Mugabe and co decided that he'd just take land and property not belonging to him, because he could. The country has a one man one vote system (so it's democratic), and the one man who can vote is Robert Mugabe. Doesn't take much of a brain to work out why no-one will invest there really does it.

I see Brittain is being accused of manipulating the weather pattern in Zim hence the drought and food shortage there
