Poll of 145,000 people decided we?re pretty miserable
Bad news - it seems Britain isn?t that great a place to live.
The UK has ranked 44th out of 145 countries worldwide for wellbeing, in a poll conducted by experts Gallup-Healthways.
Panama, famous for its large man-made c~~~~, came first - and Afghanistan placed last.
The report interviewed 145,000 people and ranked them for several measurements of wellbeing, such as physical health, social relationships and community involvement.
Interestingly, the countries doing ?best? aren?t the wealthiest - they?re ones where people feel at peace, with a percentage for each showing how many of its population felt they were ?thriving?.
In Afghanistan, that came to 0% - and Panama, at 53%, scored nearly double the UK?s 23.5%.
?Many countries struggle to achieve high well-being. This represents a huge opportunity for country and community leaders, employers, insurers and any population health stakeholder,? said Peter Choueiri, president of Healthways International.
Here?s the top ten - and how Britain compares.
1 Panama 53.0%
2 Costa Rica 47.6%
3 Puerto Rico 45.8%
4 Switzerland 39.4%
5 Belize 38.9%

7 Denmark 37.0%
8 Guatemala 36.3%
