Soon have London free of the riff-raff

George Osborne will use Wednesday's Budget to announce a clampdown on "taxpayer-funded subsidies" for "higher earners" living in social housing.
Local authority and housing association tenants in England who earn more than ?30,000 - or ?40,000 in London - will have to pay up to the market rent for their property, he is due to say.
The move is expected to raise up to ?250m a year by 2018-19.
It is thought that this could affect 340,000 households.

The expected change - which will cost tenants on average up to ?70 extra a week - will build on measures introduced under the coalition government that enabled housing associations and local authorities to charge market rents to those on incomes of more than ?60,000.

Extra money from those living in local authority properties will go straight to the Exchequer.

The government acting as a landlord and raising rents to generate income for more expenses no doubt. Anyway soon have London cleansed of those that don't own their own home and don't vote conservative *spit*

But she is earning and managing to eeek a living out there, probably borderline skint and not the sort of people that the conservatives want living there. Now instead of just punishing those unfortunate enough to be unemployed they're starting on those that don't earn enough to fit their vision of Tory England.

It's a sound bite that the will cling to and think that they're actually paying for people who work t live in those houses. What it means is that the government want the social housing owners, like the council, to put the rent up and make it unaffordable. Thing is the council won't get he money, no that will be handed over to the government *shrug* Ever tried to get a mortgage on a house in London if your'e on ?40k? You'd have to take out a 200 year mortgage to buy a shed and get yourself so much in debt you'd drown, but it's good for the banks etc. So if the rent is raised to a level they can't afford, the houses become vacant, then the government can use the excuse to sell them to people who invariably earn more and are likely Tory voters.

          *shrug*

looks like dithering dave is not forgetting the unflattering attention his party received from the bbc in the run up to the election

intending to make them fund the over 75 licence fee payment themselves,i only hope eastenders is the first for the chop to pay for it.

Aye, but it's more likely they'll put the price of the license fee up, then Dave and co can claim that all those under 75 are subsidising those over 75 not to have a license. As a result everyone over 75 should have their eyes gouged out and their ears blocked with a red hot poker as part of the policy to stop the 'subsidy' *shrug*

Even the cking BBC is now at it as well

Wednesday's Budget will include the ?12bn of welfare savings promised in the Conservative election manifesto, Chancellor George Osborne has confirmed.
Those known so far include a reduction in the benefit cap and removing subsidies for social housing.
Labour has warned that the most vulnerable must be protected.

FFS it's people paying the same rent as other people who rent the houses, as people have done for years. They aren't claiming benefit, they're paying rent fgs. cking subsidy my ar$e

in some areas of central London you will pay at least ?1200/month plus bills for a 1 bed flat never mind affording a mortgage people can just barely pay rent for a property where council property you pay about ?400/?600 that's why everyone want a council house

You mean the Dickensian days of the 1900's Tory's are back, work from dawn until dusk until you die, no pension before you die, no health service. Yeah, you're right headed straight back to them. Soon be setting up workhouses for the poor.
