Two Thousand People Have Died Soon After Being Declared ?Fit For Work?

More than two thousand people have died shortly after being declared ?fit for work? by the Department of Work and Pensions.

Statistics released today show that 2,380 people have died between December 2011 and February 2014, after being found able to work by a work capability assessment (WCA).

The data was released in response to freedom of information requests.

The Department of Work and Pensions cautioned against reading too much into the figures.

The DWP said, ?These isolated figures provide limited scope for analysis and nothing can be gained from this publication that would allow the reader to form any judgement as to the effects or impacts of the Work Capability Assessment.?

Mark Serwotka of the PCS Union said, What lies behind these figures is a cruel climate generated by some politicians and sections of the media that seeks to demonise those in need and undermine public confidence in our welfare state.'

Shocking figures that for the first time show the human cost of this Government's punishing benefits regime".

How about telling us why the assessment said they were fit for work when they were so close to death? The test has been found unfit for purpose!!!

That figure is only those that died within 14 days of being found "fit for work".
There were 91,740 deaths of people on Incapacity Benefit during that period, which is an average of 99 deaths every day.

There were 7200 deaths of those in the Work Related Activity group (this is people who are expected to be "fit for work" within 12 Months).

There were also 7540 deaths of those who were awaiting the outcome of assessment.

That equates to over 17000 deaths of people who would ordinarily not be expected to die !!!

And the man responsible for this, Iain Duncan Smith is still in office and is still trying to put further constraints on who can be classed as Unable to Work.

          Absolute Disgrace !!!

If you are also outraged about this, then why not sign the petition demanding that Iain Duncan Smith should resign.
The Department of Work and Pensions has admitted that 'case studies' showing the benefits of sanctions on peoples' lives were 'illustrative' only. I.E. lies. (121253 signatures on petition)

That's one of the reasons that the government want to exempt themselves from the FOI. They certainly didn't want to publish those statistics and delayed as much as they could.

I think he means foie gras, Meaty

Gaston still thinks the government is in charge of something somewhere?
The only thing I could see they are still in charge of, was their expenses!
