Corbyn Sweeps To Victory With 59.5% Of Vote

Jeremy Corbyn has been elected the new leader of the Labour Partyin one of the biggest political shocks of recent times.

The veteran left-wing MP stormed to victory in the first round, taking 59.5% of the 422,664 votes cast.

He left his closest rival, Andy Burnham, trailing on 19%, with Yvette Cooper winning 17% and Liz Kendall 4.5%.

:: Live Updates - Corbyn Is New Labour Leader

The result of the ballot of party members, trade unionists and people who paid ?3 to sign up as Labour supporters was revealed at the QEII conference centre in Westminster.

Tom Watson was earlier announced as the party's new deputy leader .

As Mr Corbyn's landslide win was announced, his supporters cheered loudly and chanted: "Jez we did!"

The anti-austerity Islington North MP told the crowd: "During these amazing three months, our party has changed.

"We have grown enormously, because of the hopes of so many ordinary people for a different Britain, a better Britain, a more equal Britain, a more decent Britain.

"They are fed up with the inequality, the injustice, the unnecessary poverty. All those issues have brought people in in a spirit of hope and optimism."

He said it was time to end "grotesque levels of inequality".

"The Tories have used the economic crisis of 2008 to impose a terrible burden on the poorest people of this country," he said.

"It's not right, it's not necessary and it's got to change."

He said the party is going to become more "inclusive, more involved, more democratic" and will "shape the future of everyone in this country".

:: Profile - Jeremy Corbyn, The Anti-Establishment Leader

Mr Corbyn, who calls himself a democratic socialist, told the crowd he would attend the Refugees Welcome Here rally in London once the leadership conference was finished.

i am happier following a labour leader who still understands the ideals that once formed this party than the last twenty years of wannabe right wing tory sympathisers

I seem to recall that Kinnock thought that in 1992, and he lost. Did absolutely no good at all. At the end of the day there does need to be a difference between the parties and perhaps Corbyn can make that difference and get people to vote his way, only time will tell - and an election of course. If he fails to win an election of course we'll all have another 5 years of the Tories. Since there is no other opposition party around then Corbyn needs to pull his finger out and get organised ASAP.

If three months ago I had said Corbyn would win the Labour leadership with 60% of the vote, all the people would have asked me have you been smoking ~~~~~?

I remember Labour laughing when Margaret Thatcher became leader of the Conservative party, thinking the country would never vote the Tories in with her as the PM. They didn't laugh for long.

GREAT day for UK politics - After twenty years of unrestrained Thatcherism the country finally has a left wing again

I wound?s be surprise to see Cameron stepping down before the next election!!!

                      Corbyn Manifesto explained;
                      1. A new national investment bank to encourage growth and reduce the deficit
                      2. Public ownership of the railway and energy sector
                      3. Replace Trident with jobs that retain the skills of the workers
                      4. Reduce the welfare bill through growth and investment
                      5. House building programme and rent controls
                      6. Integrate social care with the NHS
                      7. A new national education service providing universal childcare, abolishing student fees, restoring grants and funding adult skills
                      8. Scrap zero hour?s contracts and a national living wage for all, regardless of age

                      CHANGE HAS COME TO UK?.

That is exactly what will happen unless there is a concerted effort to change the unfair "First Past the Post" voting system used in the UK.
Proportional Representation is a much fairer and true reflection of what the electorate want, unlike the overall Tory majority attained with only 36.7% of the vote that gave them 331 seats of the 650 seats available, where as UKIP had 12.6% of the votes cast but only attained 1 seat.
Just with that small example above it shows the pure inequality of what was a supposed Tory landslide.
Back to Jeremy Corbyn, the Press and Media are out to crucify the man because they are afraid he will prove to be creditable opposition to their nodding dog Tory Party who are protecting Wealth.
They are afraid because Corbyn represents the ordinary working man and does not believe that workers should be treated like slaves or that the sick, disabled and poor are a worthless drain on the country. They do not like that he will not choose his cohorts based on which school they went to or by the wealth they have, they are afraid because they know he wants to give the ordinary man in the street a voice.

Do I believe in all of his beliefs ?

                        NO WAY !

But I do believe that he wants a fair deal for the ordinary man on the street and that he is staunchly against the Tory stance of pushing the working classes back into Victorian times, with no rights and no real worth.

imo the rich boys might not hav got in or it would have been a lot closer if corbyn had been in charge instead of idiot milliband there was no way labour would win with him at the helm, and yes i think cameron will be gone before the next election, he even said will prob step down before the next election.

Cameron has called Labour with Corbyn as leader "a threat to National Security, economic security and your family safety".

in my crystal ball the next election will be won by 2017. its going to be close but i think if the people of this country vote out of the EU it will be UKIP as the next government.......

btw labour do not stand a chance with corbyn at the helm..
