Petrol to hit 98p a litre as Morrisons fire first shots in price war

Motorists will pay less than ?1-a-litre for petrol from tomorrow for the first time since June 2009. The price of oil dipped early last week after the Paris attack and the RAC predicted that it would take two weeks for this to be passed on to the consumer.

Morrisons have reacted first by going below a pound first to gain ground on their competitors. Bryan Burger, Morrisons petrol retail director, said: ?Prices have been hovering above the ?1 mark for months now.

?We have seen oil prices also continuing to fall this week and that means that headline fuel prices could continue to fall.
