Government proposes more airport drop-off charges to combat pollution

Unpopular ?kiss-and-drop? charges could be extended to more UK airports after the transport minister praised them as an effective way to encourage people to take public transport.

Robert Goodwill said the charges, imposed on drivers wishing to drop off their friends or family at the terminal entrance, were a valuable weapon in the fight to improve air quality in and around major airports,

    The Independent reports.
Mr Goodwill, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport, told the Transport Select Committee: ?A number of airports, including Leeds Bradford, have a ?2 or ?3 drop-off fee.

That not only raises revenue for the airport and helps the airport with the cost of security - drop-offs are a particular security issue - but also makes a little additional argument for using public transport to get to an airport.?

Perhaps they should charge aircraft more money. I'm sure just taxiing a plane down a runway uses more fuel and pollutes more than cars travelling that extra 50 yards to drop people off. Government just see people and drivers as an easy target.

Does he not think planes are public transport then? tw@

How about issuing ministers with a pair of boat oars and a couple of rowlocks for their next overseas fact finding holiday at our expense

Wait until the aircrafts need dpfs all type approved of course, that should keep the aircraft pollution down meaning we can get nearer to the terminal, I'm sure it must be because they have our best interests at heart, not a money making scheme.

If they did it'll make the forum busy with posts like dfp off 747, dtc delete on air bus......

this was sent from tapatalk if it makes no sense...

.................................................. ...........................................^^^^^ none of them have any of those at all, let alone a pair, and in reality they wouldn't know what to do with them, unless there's a deceased porcine tied up near them.
