Fuel Could Become 'Cheaper Than Bottled Water'

Fuel may end up being cheaper than bottled water if the oil price continues to plummet, motoring experts say.

Oil prices have gone down by 30% since early December, with Brent crude briefly falling to below $30 a barrel on Wednesday to a new near 12-year low.

Some analysts are predicting it could tumble even further, with Standard Chartered bank warning a figure of $10 a barrel is possible.

This could lead to UK motorists paying just 86p per litre for fuel, as long as the pound does not continue to weaken against the dollar, according to the RAC.

I think will see some cars from SF in next years

We have planes, trains and cars to help us travel the globe but these technologies are old and have successfully carried us through the 20th century.

That’s terrible news... do hope the government finds a way to increase tax duty on fuel.

I’m thinking more of the environment, and using price to discourage car use... When fuel was around ?1.60/litre, the roads were still packed. If anything, for health reasons and reducing harmful pollutants, price should be more ?5/litre

All that will happen is the government will increase the duty on fuel at the next budget (we're all in it together so understand that right....), just in time for the price of oil to rise and motorists end up paying more in the long run. As for green taxation and the environment, yeah we should pay the say taxation as the US and other countries, who despite the rest of the world polluting less, won't give a flying ck and will continue to do wtf they want.

So you have to ask, why are we paying extra taxation to save the environment when the rest of the world continue to make it worse anyway? The other question has to be, what happens to the money that's paid in the name of green taxation, apart from it being handed over to companies who claim to be doing something but are doing nothing?
My master plan is to live forever..... going to plan so far
Despite the cost of living, it's still very popular.
                    No good deed goes unpunished....

If there were fewer cars on the road or less use of cars, the air would be a lot cleaner and not polluted so much with exhaust fumes. So really, having cheap fuel, is not a good idea for health reasons, especially for the pedestrian. Increasing the cost of fuel would be a benefit to health by discouraging personal car use. However, I’ve to wonder what price it would need to be to discourage car use, because we’ve had fuel at around ?1.60/litre, and I didn’t see much difference. There are lots of uses the government has for extra tax money received, they could for example employ more doctors.

Oh please, there are a lot more contributions to global pollution than personal cars. Airplanes, lorries, busses, industry, etc. Today's vehicles produce way less emissions than they did years ago, except maybe VW and other diesels.

As my grandfather used to say pollution when he was a kid you couldn't see two feet in front of him. Stress kills more people than pollution I don't believe what a tiny country does makes one iota of difference when larger countries regularly flout pollution agreeements. Best to take a walk in the hills if you want fresh air at least once a week.
