Well I'm sure that if we had a manufacturing industry that other countries would be complaining that we might make things cheaper than they do. However since that was destroyed many years ago n favour of call centres, service industry, financial sector and everything not nailed down sold to foreign companies we'll never know.

makes me pish, we used to have an epic manufacturing industry but as gas said all been sold off to foreigners, then they close it down or reduce the work force drastically, we rely a lot on foreign companies now to provide jobs, and all the profit they make from uk people leaves the country, plus all the imports we make nowdays =s more money out the country ( and we all guilty of buying cheap foreign crap )

the other thing is; I don't think there's many people in Britain today who would want to work in those manufacturing industries, and if they did, they'd want to be a lot better paid than their relatives were the past.

On the steel topics I understand TATA moving out of UK the steel industry already in the red, rumours in the next few months the world going to a grind, no jobs for people in the industries the reason who wants to do business when there are wars on going, our politician need to do more, I can not think about it….
