Type 45 destroyers: UK's ?1bn warships face engine refit

The Royal Navy's most modern warships are to be fitted with new engines because they keep breaking down.

The entire fleet of the Royal Navy's most modern warship is to be fitted with new engines because of persistent breakdowns.

Really, they should have tendered the contract to build destroyers to a Chinese company for better reliability... I?ve to wonder why Britain needs all these boats, to be deployed all around the world

Well the armed forces don't get any sort of warranty at alll that anything they purchase actually works, or that's how it used to be. So if your'e in the field and your tank blows up tough sh*t so they say. With the purchasing power that the MOD has I have to ask why they don't insist that anything they purchase, such as warships, have no warranty at all.

As to why we need to buy expensive things like this, it's so warmongers can feel tough when they send everyone else out to die for them and so that the companies owned by the warmonger's friends can make lots of money and employ the warmonger should they find they have no job after the next election of course.

Because Britain still thinks it has an Empire to protect.

What you really mean is that we're busy interfering in other countries as usual to deflect from the f**kups that are happening at home. Get the people behind you, tell them it's patriotic to send the armed forces to another country to die and Joe Public will support you *shrug*

I think the government knows they don’t have an empire to protect any more... it’s moved on from that. I think one of the reasons is; because Britain is one of the biggest arms & weapons manufacturers and sellers in the world, the government is keen to get involved in conflicts to promote their weapons and sales...
