Iain Duncan Smith quits over planned disability benefit changes

Iain Duncan Smith has resigned as work and pensions secretary, denouncing ?4bn of planned cuts to disability benefits as "indefensible".

He complains of pressure to "salami slice" welfare, saying the latest cuts were a "compromise too far" in a Budget that benefits higher earning taxpayers.

David Cameron said he was "puzzled and disappointed" at the resignation.

Earlier, the government had indicated it would look again at some of the proposed disability benefits changes

what a bizarre turn of events, this man conspired with Osborne to formulate the hit on the most vulnerable in society whilst rewarding the rich with tax cuts.

good riddance, unlikely he has had an attack of conscience.more to do with the brexit he supports I think.

Best news for ages, IDS has realised that the hatred towards him is justified and that in this latest round of cuts the Tories didn't even try to hide the fact that the savings made by the cuts were to be spent funding the higher tax band payers.
He has realised that there is no bulls**t to hide the truth behind and that he was the village idiot stupid enough to implement what had gone on so far.
Just need him to step down completely from his parliamentary seat.

1 stepping down won't be enough, which is a bit of a shame, maybe 20+ would help, but then again teh opposition is in such disarray I really hope we didn't get an election too soon - the Tories would only win again. IDS certainly hasn't just found his social conscience, Tory MP's have them surgically removed the day they are selected to stand as an MP.

David Cameron would be puzzled by his own toenails if he knew he had some.

and there we have it; his resignation was designed to make George look like a bigger tw@ than he is and make Boris look like he was leadership material instead. If he was really serious he'd have resigned as an MP (I wish I could resign the part of my job where I actually had to work, but still kept my job so that I got the salary as well)
