David Cameron with owner Iain Harris at the Witney Used Car Centre
The Prime Minister has surprised the owner of a local car dealership by turning up to buy a second-hand motor for just ?1,500.
David Cameron arrived at the Witney Used Car Centre in Minster Lovell, Oxfordshire over the weekend to view a car for his wife, Samantha.
Owner Iain Harris said that the Conservative left with a 2004 blue Nissan Micra with 93,000 miles on the clock.
Mr Harris told Yahoo! News that the Prime Minister visited the garage after his ?security detail rang up and gave notice.?
He described the Prime Minister as a ?down to earth kind of bloke.?
?He came specifically to look at that car ? he must have seen it online,? he added.
?It was totally surreal,? he told Mail Online. ?I got a call on Friday night to say that the Prime Minister was on his way round to look at one of our cars. I thought it was one of my mates, winding me up.?
?I couldn?t believe it when he turned up. He said it had to be something made in the UK. I joked that he wouldn?t want a red car.?
Cameron is reported to have driven off in the car himself ? a far cry from what he?s used to.
