Questions raised over accuracy of speed cameras after driver doing 29mph was clocked

Questions raised over accuracy of speed cameras after driver doing 29mph was clocked reaching 85mph.

Questions have been raised by lawyers over the accuracy of speed cameras after a driver doing just 29 miles an hour was clocked as reaching 85 mph.

Delivery driver Thomas Baird was sent a court summons accusing him of speeding in a 30 mph zone in Talke, Staffs.

Now Staffordshire Police have withdrawn the prosecution and paid out ?2,000 to cover the driver's legal costs.

The error has raised questions over the reliability of the camera and whether other drivers have been wrongly prosecuted.

Latest figures show the camera that caught Mr Baird snared 568 motorists between October, 2014 and the end of September.

Bobby Bell, director of BB Law, which represented Mr Baird, said: "The most concerning fact about this case is that the police apparently still have no idea as to how or why this device managed to over-calculate my client's speed by a whopping 56mph.

"This case undermines confidence in this camera and possibly even the reliability of this model of camera. The police should switch it off until they can provide an explanation for the error.

Speed cameras are seldom wrong most of times, raising more than ?1.4 million, the goal is safety and speed limits need to be realistic if they are to be relied upon.

Was talking to a non dk member, he said on the main road out the big city
EVERY morning would be accident, then 2 speed invoicing cameras
were installed & no more crashes.

would have been better to put sign up.

"6am-9am 40 mph zone, you crash in this zone
between these times, you will get a new bottom hole ripped"

I tried that approach and lost. I proved my car could not do the speed accused and I presented reasons for their data being incorrect and was found guilty anyway because magistrates do not have enough brain to understand and are instructed that these cameras do not fail, you may as well piss into the wind as try and get a not guilty.

The newer average speed cameras are now networked, so that if you should speed between roads where another set of cameras are set up they'll be able to get you for that as well.

Smart mortorways, networked camera's, CCTV in towns/cities capable of ANPR are all being set up to end road tax and start PAYD, or pay as you drive, with rates varying depending on which road you use and when. That way they can end road tax, increase the price of fuel to cover road tax being abolished and then charge you for using the roads. Was it not Dave's government who want to raise money by privatising the road network (in other words selling it to his mates cheap) ? What better way to star than having a monopoly with millions of users eh. CCTV all over also allows for automatic invoicing as well.
