The Chilcot report surprises with its damning indictment of Blair

Sir John Chilcot gave a damning indictment of former prime minister Tony Blair?s decision to go to war with Iraq today.

In a speech at the Queen Elizabeth II conference centre, Chilcot said: ?We have concluded that the UK chose to join the invasion of Iraq before the peaceful options for disarmament had been exhausted. Military action at that time was not a last resort.?

He continued: ?The circumstances in which it was decided that there was a legal basis for UK military action were far from satisfactory.?

Chilcot was not asked to give a legal verdict, but comes pretty close to saying that war may well have been illegal

Most Ministers at the time quit their jobs out of sheer disgust at our Government leader’s enthusiasm to follow blindly behind the American agenda which still continues today.

Our actions in the Middle East brought terrorism to our door and killed many of people.

The media has been manipulated to further the ends of a war mongering Government, the people have been lied to and our relations with our international partners have been forever lost.

What this military action has caused that we are not safe to go abroad as freely as before, never again must so many mistakes be allowed to sacrifice British lives, and lead to the destruction of a country for no positive end and over 500 000 dead Iraqis and Blair is walking a free man.

It certainly didn't help, but wasn't the cause. We've had various attacks in the past, even with some groups funded by the US. The general problem being that the UK can't keep it's nose out of other countries. It wasn't so long ago Dave wanted to start bombing Syria, like it has anything to do with us. Dave wa sin charge when we bombed Libya in 2011. Why?

No real change. How often did you travel to Iraq,Iran and Afghanistan before 2001?

Agreed on the mistakes. But I think you'll find that Iraqi's were dying long before Tony jumped in with both feet, or rather pushed the UK in feet first. Politicians don't learn by their mistakes, apparently they don't make them, however (very sadly) people die as a result of their so called non mistakes. That's politicians of all parties, all the same underneath.

I still could not understand why we went to war in Iraq, black gold, nothing Blair has done has been in the interests of this country, only in his own self-interest and he is now a multi millionaire going for retirement.

So's Dave, as was Maggie, as is Brown, as was Wilson, Heath, Major, as was Lloyd George. Lloyd who went to war without the UK being attacked. Atlee took the UK to war in Korea, and I don't recall Korea attacking us either. Major took us to war in the Gulf, or was that Maggie, without the UK being attacked. Dave bombed Libya without the UK being attacked. Was it Major also bombed the Balkens?. There is no such thing as a legal war, so they're all illegal in someones eyes. I do sympathise with the families who lost relatives, but it's why the armed forces exist.

You need to look at the positives, rather than the negatives.
