Ian Mearns said employees should be allowed to stay home if the mercury rises too high - because working in such conditions is unhealthy and "desperately uncomfortable".
The Labour MP for Gateshead said: "In temperatures like this, it means that normal cooling systems just can?t cope.
"In fact, it could be really serious to their health because it puts huge pressure on people just to keep cool."
Mr Mearns has put forward a motion in Parliament which would force employers to ensure workplace temperatures do not exceed 30C - or 27C if their employees are involved with strenuous labour.
Currently, government regulations only recommend ensuring an unspecified "reasonable" workplace temperatures.
The general secretary of the Trade Union Congress has also called for an end to working in "dangerous" heats.
Temperatures nudged 90C (32C) yesterday, causing travel chaos as rail operators implemented speed restrictions amid fears tracks would buckle in the heat.
The London Ambulance Service received hundreds more calls than usual yesterday, while the RSPCA warned pet owners not to lock animals in cars or sheds.
