Mum calls for Aldi to put brakes on trolleys after one crashed into her car

A mum has blasted Aldi for failing to put brakes on their shopping trolleys after a runaway cart crashed into her car.

Nicola Gee says the rogue trolley could have easily hit her disabled daughter or an elderly person.

But when she raised her concerns with the supermarket chain she was told that bosses could not accept any responsibility for the incident.

Nicola, 38, was shopping at the Stalybridge branch of Aldi with her mum Yvonne, three-year-old son Keillan and daughter Stevie, six, who suffers from cerebral palsy.

She had just seated the kids in her car and was about to unload her shopping into the boot when the trolley flew off the kerb and crashed into the back of her Vauxhall Signum, last Thursday (September 1).

She told the Manchester Evening News: ?Stevie has just had some casts fitted to her legs to help her walk so the kids in the car with my mum.
?When I finished shopping I parked the trolley up next to the car as stable as I could because it didn?t have brakes.

?I was parked in a disabled spot and there is a curb next to it where I had put the trolley. When I turned around it fell of the kerb and banged into the car.

?It damaged the car but I?m more concerned about the fact that it could have hit one of my kids or a disabled person.?

Nicola, from Stalybridge, is now calling on Aldi to install brakes on all trolleys.

She said: ?When I went back into the shop to complain the manager said she would have to talk to the area manager. I had a phone call back from them and they said it?s just one of those things.

?I think they need to do a better risk assessment. When I?ve been to other supermarkets they have brakes on their trolleys.

?It could have been a lot worse and the need for brakes has just been dismissed.?

To drive supermarket trolley soon need hard hat, reflective jacket, passport, collision damage insurance and annual MOT
also training on how to sheet down and rope goods on trolley and no carrying of dangerous substance without certificate training eg tins paint, hairs spray garden chemicals or nappies

Someone before hand was obviously steering the trolley or are there poltergeist down there as well? On another note mate finishes work 3-30am one morning goes into big shop car park [nameless] Always parks well away from anyone and car park is almost empty. He comes out and whole side is tore off car so re-enters shop asks manager to look at video of car park he obliges. The delivery truck driver screams round the empty car park and remodels his car. Did this shop not have video?

The trolley belonged to the woman who is complaining, it was on the pavement/walkway behind her car and it rolled off the pavement and down off the kerb hitting her car. It does say this in the article but it isn't made very clear.

                      Aldi should go one better.

                      1) Trolley driving tests
                      2) L plates and must be accompanied by a licensed trolley driver
                      3) Trolleys must pass an MOT test
                      4) Trolleys must be insured by the 'driver'

Hopefully common sense will prevail. Chances are she drove into the trolley and is wanting to claim the other way.

I think someone did ask about CCTV footage. While all supermarkets etc have CCTV's, the rules do state that if ever you need to footage for evidence that teh cameras will have been out of action during that period. Wait until your car gets hit in a supermarket car park, ask to see the footage to get the registration of the other car and you'll see what I mean...

                          Lucky 'Mum' ...
I always end up with that trolley, the one with one wheel broken, that runs just fine when empty...
With some usual shopping and a 6 pack water bottles you have to really push it...
No way that trolley is gonna move one inch without some serious effort from the 'driver'

A failure will not appear till a unit has passed final inspection

Pure rumour put out by UKIP and the Con party, blaming the EU no doubt, to get people to vote to leave. No such law anyway. Sorry
