The UK's first food waste supermarket opens!

The UK's first food waste supermarket has opened in Pudsey, near Leeds, and it looks brilliant.

The warehouse store on the Grangefield Industrial Estate sells food that's been thrown away by supermarkets and other businesses on a "pay as a feel" basis.

This new store has already helped a number of people who have been struggling to feed their children, including Kirsty Rhodes, who was diagnosed with a chronic pain condition, leaving her husband with no other choice than to quit his job and look after their children. This meant the family's household income was reduced to almost nothing.

"The warehouse has absolutely been our lifeline over the past month or so," Kirsty told The Independent.

"With three young children and two adults to feed we started to struggle straight away. Luckily we took the plunge to go to the warehouse and it was amazing!"

The founder of the Real Junk Food Project, Adam Smith, who is behind the food waste supermarket, told The Independent that there are plans to open more of these warehouse style stores across the UK.

Not 100% true new idea. There are various army surplus stores, where as a tax payer you can buy food you paid for back

    24 tins of beans ?2.30

its a great idea to stop still usable food be recycled and not be dumped, just thinking of all those homeless frozen people on the street that could do with more food in the next 6 months.
