Hurricane victims say don?t give money to American Red Cross

If you?re planning to donate money to help the victims of Hurricane Matthew in Haiti, think twice before giving to the American Red Cross (ARC).

Haitians are sending out desperate pleas for help following the storm that killed nearly 900 Haitians, but among them is a message to choose your charity of choice carefully.

It follows a damning report last year that examined how foreign aid sent to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake was spent.

The charity pledged to build 700 homes after receiving half a billion dollars in donations (about ?310 million according to exchange.

It comes six years after a massive earthquake (Picture: AP)

But the ARC has been accused of building six.

So after receiving half a billion dollars in donations about ?310 million this charity pledged to build 700 homes but the ARC build only six houses and those are the same charities asking for money again!!! I remember the Pakistan earthquake in 2013 kills at least 327 people and left thousands more injured and homeless, charities collected thousands in donations nothing has happened most have died waiting.

Ah well my brother worked in Haiti for a number of years. It works like this

The UN/government/charity gives Haiti $20 million for temporary tents.

Now you may think that tents are around $50 each buying them in bulk wouldn't you, so that $20 million will buy tents for all. What they missed is that with the money Haiti must buy tents from a company vetted and accepted by all who donate the money. The tents are available at a cost of $20,000 each + $30000 delivery per tent and if you don't buy your tents from that company, at that price, you don't get the $20 million.

      Welcome to real world charity.
