Electric cars could be given priority at traffic lights and exempted from one-way systems, under new proposals.
The government's planned clean air zones are intended to encourage drivers to choose less-polluting electric cars.
Proposed for five English cities by 2020, the clean air zones will also introduce restrictions on older, polluting commercial vehicles.
But AA president Edmund King said drivers would be "baffled" by separate rules for electric cars.

The clean air zones are the government's response to a UK Supreme Court ruling, which ordered it to take action to meet European limits on air pollution.

Motorists paying for the governments inept policies again. One way streets tend to be one way due to being very narrow, will they also be given the right to drive on the path as they go the wrong way?

Not a bad idea, as Meat said will have to cut trees and demolish most houses when we already not have enough space for the bus lanes, not going to work because even bus lanes are only parts on the road, need to demolish the whole country and start from beginning…..

they said "1000s more charging points are to be introduced", how long will it be before they start charging fur the leccy ? especially when theres a few million leccy cars on the roads and they losing epic amounts of petrol tax, all a load of PISH.

They seem to think that electricity comes from some magical source that doesn't use fossil fuels. Unsure which cuckoo land they live in but it has nothing to do with reality.

Seems there's a plot to get people to use more electricity than ever before, anyone would think that it's a plot by the government to raise the cost of electricity to ensure that the cost of paying France and China for Hinkley is covered, maybe the Tory party have shares in EDF or something. *shrug*

Didn't need a study to find out what common sense will tell you, motorists, were given better use of the roads which they partly pay for with road fund licences. Why are expensive electric cars lanes paid for by motorists and not by the people who use them to the great inconvenience of everyone else?
