Rural residents told to take wheelie bins to collection points up to a mile

Rural residents told to take wheelie bins to collection points up to a mile from their properties.

Cllr Julie Slater (left) and Val Williamson in Tueton after alterations were made to bin collections

Rural residents have allegedly been left having to drag their wheelie bins up to a mile from their houses after doorstep collections in their area were cancelled.

Hundreds of homeowners who live away from adopted roads in Edgworth and Belmont have been told they must take the bins to ?central collection points? every fortnight instead of having their bins emptied every week at their properties.

Local authority Blackburn with Darwen Council claimed the changes had to be enforced because doorstep collections down such roads were ?extremely costly? and sometimes caused damage to refuge vehicles.

Cllr Colin Rigby, for North Turton, told The Bolton News he had spoken to residents who had been left ?incensed? by the decision.

He said: ?Some of the people are elderly and others have health problems and they are having to drag their bins, some of them up to a mile.?

He added: ?I already know that a lot of people are upset by the changes and it is causing them a lot of problems.?

MH can you help them motorise their wheelie bins sounds like a fun project! Additionally if you can designed a dump ramp to front of bins for dumping at local council office front door you will be so popular I'm sure Tracy Barlow will tweet you

Do you know there are so many willy bin stores read this one whoes fault is this?

Binmen refuse to empty grandmother's rubbish from wheelie bin she dragged 50ft on her own because it's only got one wheel.

Binmen have been blasted by a great grandmother after they refused to move her one-wheeled bin for health and safety reasons - even though she managed it.
Widow Anne Hobson, 71, who suffers from asthma and osteo-arthritis dragged the broken bin 50 feet down her driveway for it to be collected.
But because its right wheel had broken off, refuse collectors declined to wheel it just a few feet to their truck.

Retired bookkeeper Mrs Hobson, from Farnworth, near Bolton, Greater Manchester said: 'It's unbelievable that I can drag the bin 50ft to the end of my driveway, but able-bodied men can't take it from the kerbside and have it emptied into the wagon just a few feet away.
'I think they're just lazy and being jobsworths. It seems to me they want the job done for them and they can't be bothered.'

Many bin collections are contracted out to private companies and so they will always want the shortest routes and ways of collecting the bins and when the collections are still council run you have bin inspectors who will stick labels on your bin telling you it can't be collected because you have put the wrong things in the bins...................they are rubbish bins ffs !
