You know you're in a dictatorship when....

"Serious and unjustified" attacks on senior judges over the Brexit ruling should be condemned by Lord Chancellor Liz Truss, the Bar Council has said.
The demand for action comes in the wake of criticism from some Tory MPs and newspapers over the ruling that MPs should vote on triggering Article 50.
The Daily Mail branded judges "Enemies of the people", while the Daily Express said it was "the day democracy died".
Labour said Ms Truss had "let down" the judiciary with her silence.
On Thursday, the High Court ruled Parliament should vote on when the government can trigger Article 50, beginning the formal process of the UK leaving the EU.
The judges found that the government could not start the formal process by using the royal prerogative alone, and would need the backing of both the Commons and the Lords.
Following fierce criticism of the ruling, the Bar Council of England and Wales has now called for Ms Truss - who as Lord Chancellor is responsible for courts, prisons, probation and constitutional affairs - to defend the judges.
In a statement it said it regretted "the lack of public statement by the Lord Chancellor condemning these attacks".
It called on her to do so "as a matter of urgency".
"A strong independent judiciary is essential to a functioning democracy and to upholding the rule of law," it said in a statement.

Lord Chancellor Liz Truss stops short of condemning attacks on senior judges over the Brexit ruling.

    or

The judges were accused of ignoring the British people by some national newspapers, while leading Leave campaigner Douglas Carswell MP said the ruling was 'Shocking judicial activism' and said the judges were acting like 'politicians without accountability.'
The outpouring of rage against the High Court's decision was so strong at Westminster that there were calls for a review of the way senior judges are appointed.

...... the government thinks it can interfere with the legal process. It isn't the job of judges to follow the will of the people, or the government, their job is independent. Any interference by the government in the legal system and you end up with Saddam May....

Yes the majority of those who voted, voted to leave. Parliament needs to hit the leave button, not a single person. Parliament voted us in and they must vote us out. Though the SNP may vote against, as will the NI MP's I dare say, since their voters voted to stay in.

If any government interferes with the legal process, or ignores the laws that are in place, then how can they think themselves better than the North Korean government? The judges verdict is on the legal side, not political. It appears that some papers and MP's don't know that they are and must remain separate.

Judges aren't there to agree with anyone, they are impartial.

and when this sort of thing happens

The government has prepared a short three-line bill to begin the Brexit process - so Theresa May can meet her March deadline, it is understood.
Sources say they believe the legislation is so tightly drawn it will be difficult for critical MPs to amend.
Ministers have drawn up the legislation in case they lose their appeal to the Supreme Court - which would force them to consult Parliament.
The High Court ruled against the government earlier this month.

The government is understood to have prepared a three-line bill to begin the Brexit process.

So that May doesn't have to reveal her governments lack of planning, or what deals they may be doing behind closed doors.

It means the parts you need will cost more. Of course if Nissan, Ford, JLR, Honda, Vauxhall and the like decide they don't want to pay tariffs that may be imposed to export to the EU - there'll be no so called UK car industry anyway, so no worries. At least it will help the government cut down on carbon emissions because people won't want to pay more and as a result less cars. As for the POles and Latvians, they aren't going home. I would expect that May will allow in more Chinese and Indians to make up the numbers, though that will be done behind the scenes since she doesn't have to inform parliament.
