First China to UK train arrives in London loaded with millions of SOCKS

THE FIRST-EVER freight train service from China to the UK has arrived in Britain ? with its cargo of millions of socks.

The service completed its 7,500-mile journey at Barking?s rail freight terminal in East London, earlier today.




The 18-day trip saw 34 containers pass through seven countries including Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Belgium and France before entering the UK via the Channel Tunnel.

A number of different locomotives and wagons were used as the railways of the former Soviet Union states have a larger rail gauge than the other countries involved.

The service is cheaper than air freight and faster than sending goods by sea.

Weekly trains will initially be run to assess demand.

why dont they add a 3rd rail to there tracks ? there billions of them , would only take a week an they can use the same train all the way ,, just an idea

They won't need to smuggle them in from China, we're going to be swapping EU immigrants for immigrants from the US, China, India, Australia and New Zealand anyway as part of getting "free" trade deals.

Makes you wonder length of that railway and we piss about tinkering with our tracks because no one has got a clue how to deliver something that works.
Nothing in life truly free but did anyone check to see if they sent clean socks.......

So Mr super economist, what do you do.

a) Impose import tariffs on imported socks to make sure that UK made socks are cheaper to buy than imported Chinese socks?
b) Ban imported socks?
c) Subsidise UK made socks so that they're cheaper than imported socks?

There's more than 1.6 million, it depends how you count and how you want it to look.

We have a labour problem here they can only make left sock. Right sock are too capitalist and are priced to make a profit on cheap labour
I wonder what the C02 and N 2O footprint is for a slow (Boat) train to china!
