The Brits hurrying to become German citizens

The Brexit debate in the UK is focusing on the rights of EU migrants in the country, among them about 300,000 Germans.

Many people are worried about what will happen to them after Brexit. But how are the 100,000 Brits in Germany feeling? The BBC's Damien McGuinness says many are hurrying to apply for citizenship.

That's because no-one knows what will happen to them once Britain leaves the EU. These are not the bronzed "expats" of the tabloid imagination - living it up in the sun, glass of gin in one hand, golf club in the other.

They are young freelancers worried that if they need visas their work will dry up. Or pensioners living in rented flats, surviving on fixed incomes tied to a shrinking pound.

Brexit-Britain and Trump's US, meanwhile, seem to be heading in the opposite direction. At least, that's what it looks like from here.

Twin citizenship is a critical component of federalism: you belong to your own state and to the Germans....

"They are young freelancers worried that if they need visas their work will dry up."
Working for charities looking after all the refugees and fighting for their rights, so they are scared that if they have to come home there will be no work for them.

Good luck to them, I say, as long as they hand in their Brit passports.

Looking at what's happening now the CBI is asking that migrant workers be allowed in from the EU once the UK leaves, the banks are busy trying to make it so they can do the same and have access to the 'passport' facilities for transactions with the EU, and I've seen somewhere that farmers want access to cheap labour from the EU. At the end of the day the UK has voted to break from the EU totally, if businesses can't accept that they have the option of doing a runner. No special options should be open to any business, if they're open to one then they're open to everyone.

If, as May said, Brexit means Brexit then none of those things can or should happen. Bet banks, farmers and businesses get their own way.....
My master plan is to live forever..... going to plan so far
Despite the cost of living, it's still very popular.

Looks like Mrs May has found a loophole we don't have to pay them ?52billion divorce they can get f*cked! That's a lot of hospital beds etc.
This doesn't include the annual fees! At that rate we might all get a PPI style payback

Not the smartest of ideas if you actually want to trade with them in the future.

Do you really think that any money not going to the EU will be spent on making Joe Public UK's life any better, seriously?

As Nara has said not paying your debt when you want to do a deal to buy and sell to the same countries isn't smart.

As for the oft quoted "we export more to the EU than we import" think about it, we may export 50% of our goods to the EU, that's under 2% to each country on average, I'm sure that each country can make that up elsewhere.
