Record numbers leave Britain as Poles head home-

    - but new arrivals increase to half a million

Emigration from recession-hit Britain reached a record level last year.
But the number of foreigners living here still increased by 700 each day, new figures show.
Some 427,000 people left the UK, up from 341,000 in 2007. They included 172,000 Britons starting a new life in countries such as Australia, Spain and France.

Polish men scan the job ads in a shop window in Hammersmith, west London. Many Polish workers are now heading home, new figures show

But statisticians said the bulk of the rise was due to tens of thousands of foreign workers returning home as jobs dried up.
The figures from the Office for National Statistics showed the number of non-Britons leaving the country leapt by 50 per cent from 169,000 to 255,000. Many were Poles who arrived after the expansion of the EU in 2004.

The total number of Eastern Europeans leaving the UK more than doubled from 25,000 to 69,000 between 2007 and 2008.
At the same time 505,000 foreign nationals - or 1,380 every day - arrived for an extended stay of 12 months or more. This easily outstripped the number leaving and meant that the number of foreigners living in the UK went up by 251,000 or 700 every day.
Overall net immigration - the number of arrivals minus the number of departures, regardless of nationality - was 163,000, 70,000 down on 2007.
Home Office Minister Phil Woolas said the figures showed immigrants were coming here to work and then returning home. He claimed the Government's new points-based work permit system was taking effect.
But critics said the fall in net immigration was almost entirely due to many more Eastern Europeans going home than arriving - and the Government has no control over people from most of the newer EU members.
They also warned that, on yesterday's figures, the UK's population would still reach 70million within 20 years.

Tory immigration spokesman Damian Green said: 'Yet another of Gordon Brown's soundbites has proved to be false. This government has created British jobs for foreign workers.
'Ministers should apologise for the years in which they have given us a chaotic immigration system with numbers coming in at levels which put unacceptable pressure on public services.
'To make the points-based system effective, we need an annual limit, as well as much more effective measures against those who abuse the loopholes in, for example, the student visa system.'
MPs Frank Field and Nicholas Soames, who chair the cross-party balanced migration group in Parliament, said Government policies were having little or no effect on immigration.

A YouGov poll for the think-tank Migrationwatch UK found that 72 per cent of people want net immigration slashed to 50,000 or fewer.
Other figures released yesterday showed that the number of people granted settlement - the route to British citizenship - between July and September this year was 49,555, 38 per cent up on the same period in 2008.
Police may use military-style unmanned aircraft to fight illegal immigration and drug smuggling. The drones, like those used to spot enemies in Afghanistan, would patrol the coastline or keep watch on suspect ships.
BAE Systems said yesterday it was working with Essex and Kent police as part of the South Coast Partnership, which also includes the UK Border Agency.

Neighbours of mine moved to France. Recently, he needed Laser Eye Treatment. Too expensive in France, so he flew back here and went to his old G.P. "6 week waiting list......" "But I live in France!!" He got a Eye Hospital Appointment 4 days later and jumped the queue.........

This is the guy who said that England had become a complete Sh*thole full of ~~~~ing Foreigners etc etc etc.

Good riddance -- they should keep him in France if that's where he wants to live.

It makes my blood boil. Rant over.

i understand what your saying but its not that cut and dried, i live in greece and went back to the uk for a holiday. i got a really bad ear infection while i was there and went to the local hospital, and because i was not resident in the uk i had to pay 25 pounds before i was seen by a doctor. i payed my stamp all my working life in the uk, but because i moved out of the country i had to pay. fair enough it was my choice to leave,so all i can say is your friend was very lucky to get free treatment. i moved here purely for the weather nothing else, and if i need a doctor i pay for everything. the only upside is medicine is cheap here.

That's a bit hypocritical of you isn't it ? the guy is right, it is a sh*thole full of foreigners, I mean do you not say the same thing basically when you slag off the current government because of your displeasure of what they've done to the country around you that you're having to live in ? Speaking of which, wouldn't you leave to live in another country and leave all this behind if you could ? I know I would, and I don't blame the people that have the foresight and status to do so, but unfortunately I like a lot of others don't have a choice in the matter. This is not meant as a personal dig or anything but I just think it's a little hypocritical of you to slag this guy off when you know full well that in all likelihood you'd probably do the same thing if you could....

i take benefit claims every day and you have no idea how many "interpreters" i have to arrange (at a cost of ?1 per min). they are now claiming esa as work dries up. there must be a mass epidemic of depression in this country judging by the calls i take!!

why cant we do what australia does and they have to have a sponsor if they come to this country.

I worked abroad in the 70's -- had the opinion of living there -- but decided against it -- well, we all make mistakes

My point was that he was able to JUMP the queue -- while not even being a Resident in this Country.

I understand that m8 and you have every right to be frustrated or downright angry with that, I would be too. But that's the government's fault not this guy's fault. But my point is that you are slagging this guy off for doing something that you know within yourself that you would do if you could. And you do say the same stuff he does. It's every man for himself m8 and you know this. That's why it's hypocritical of you to slag the guy off for doing something you do or would do if you had the option.

It's the same with asylum seekers too, I don't blame them for coming in and doing the things we all know they do, because I'd do the exact same thing if I could as would most people though they might be loathe to admit it, because it is dog eat dog. The only time you'll catch me slagging off asylum seekers is when they kill and get let off. But even then I blame the government for their decision making in letting them in in the first place to the extent that they do and giving them the treatment they do over British folk who are just as needy.

End of the day m8 my point is you can't condemn the bloke for something you'd do yourself. There is a word for that....hypocrisy.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Bottom line is he shouldn't have been allowed to jump the queue. We're a soft touch here in th UK for everyone, EXCEPT the employed of this country.

                        The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

m8 I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying it's hypocritical of him or anyone to slag someone off for doing something or saying something that they themselves either would do if they could or actually have said themselves....that's my whole point. It's NOT right that he's able to jump the queue, but to slag the guy off for saying things you say yourself well it is what it is pal - hypocrisy. That's my point, but apart from that I agree with what you both are saying.

Well you don't need the weatherman to tell you it's chucking it down outside, do you ? Your implications based on your numerous hate posts about the government and asylum seekers says all that needs to be said m8.

It's very easy to sit there and badmouth somebody for the things they do or the things they say, but you've not got any right to be lambasting someone if you yourself are saying the same shit in a different way on a different day.....it's really as simple as that.
