Maurice Clemmons was carrying a handgun taken from one of the four officers he killed at a suburban coffee shop near Seattle (SN reported) when he ran afoul of a Seattle policeman who shot him to death when he wouldn't stop and raise his hands.
An assistant police chief said the patrol officer recognized Clemmons near a stolen car in a working-class Seattle neighborhood. Police have already arrested four people for allegedly helping Clemmons evade authorities, and more arrests are expected.
Clemmons killed Sgt. Mark Renninger and Officers Ronald Owens, Tina Griswold and Greg Richards. Police say the only motive they have is that Clemmons decided he wanted to go kill police officers.
