Migrant numbers double in 30 years:

One in ten living in the UK is now foreign-born

National Statistician Jil Matheson reported more than 10 per cent of the British population were born abroad

The number of immigrants living in Britain has almost doubled in less than three decades, official figures show.
More than 10 per cent of the population - 6.7million - were born abroad, the Office for National Statistics has found.
The analysis shows that the count of those born abroad - now agreed to be the best figure for measuring the rate of immigration - is two million higher than it was just eight years ago.
And the figure is nearly double the 3.38million people born abroad who were recorded as living in Britain in 1981.

The scale of immigration over the past few years was set out in a breakdown by National Statistician Jil Matheson, the recently-appointed head of the Government's Office for National Statistics.
She said that there are 689,000 migrants from Eastern Europe in Britain, an increase of 522,000 since Poland and seven other Eastern European countries joined the EU in 2004.
But these make up only one in ten of the foreign-born population of the country, Miss Matheson found.

She also endorsed the ONS projections that say that the UK population will hit the politically sensitive 70million mark in 2029.
She added the recession is likely to have only a small impact on the record levels of immigration since 2001.

The ONS report found that Eastern Europeans have begun to emigrate as well as to arrive in Britain, and overall 20,000 more Eastern Europeans came to this country than left it in 2008.
Current research, Miss Matheson added, suggests that 'a short-term period of falling immigration can be expected, before immigration levels rise again to pre-recession levels'.

She concluded: 'The current recession is likely to have a small and temporary effect on net migration.'

Her findings run counter to assurances from Gordon Brown and Immigration Minister Phil Woolas that the new Home Office points-based immigration system will curb numbers coming into the country and the 70million population mark will never be reached.
Sir Andrew Green, of the Migrationwatch think-tank, said: 'This report confirms the massive impact of immigration on our population under the present Government.
'It must be brought under control, but so far Government policies are completely inadequate for the purpose.'
However, Border and Immigration Minister Phil Woolas said: 'These population projections do not take into account the impact of future government policies or those Eastern Europeans who came here, contributed, and are now going home.
'Projections are uncertain. For instance in the 1960s they said our population would reach 76million by the year 2000, this was off target by 16million.'
He added: 'And let's be clear the category "foreign-born mothers" includes British people born overseas - such as children whose parents are in the armed forces or those who come to Britain at a very early age.'
Previous research counted the number of foreign passport holders, but with many being granted British citizenship counting those who are foreign born is now thought to give the most accurate figure.
The findings on the scale of immigration follow evidence that the arrival of large numbers of migrant workers has pushed down wages and living standards for low-paid workers.
A report last week by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation charity found that the poorest-paid working families have been getting poorer and suffering greater unemployment not since the onset of recession, but from 2004 onwards during a time of economic boom.

the reason people born here dont do the job new immigrants do is because they are low paid and if you pay rent say ?500 a month council tax ?120 a month electric etc minimum wages wont cover this and all the immigrants are doing are subsiding crap employers and keeping the working mans and womans wages low , so they are bad for the working man good for crap employers and put a strian on all the services, increase traffic, and its the non white people who where born here which are the worse effected

So how are immigrants able to survive on low wages and indigenous whites are not? Immigrants live in homes just like the rest of us, how can they manage and you can't?

Because when you've got a party of 20 living on top of each other in a doss the rent is easily covered by each one pitching in 20 quid each.

The reason migrants can afford it is they have shitty living conditions which due to the body count turn out to be insanely cheap.

A firned of mine did exactly the same thing in london, he shifted down there as a labourer and wound up working well below minimum wage, living in a 4 bedroom flat with 17 other guys in exactly the same position.

Now hes tied down with a wife and ids back up here he couldnt afford to survive in the same conditions, a wife and an 8yrs old daughter shacked up in a 4 bedroom with 17 sweaty unkempt men doesnt sound like a good idea to me.
He who laughs last thinks slowest.

Do you really think that ?10,104.84 a year is good money?
And what about all their costs and expenses from this
                  ?10,104.84.

The simple fact is this country will NOT be able to survive without the migrant workers, the British born & breed dont want to work on hard, dirty, common jobs.

I run my own business and have 38 people working for me and beleave me I know. The migrants who work for me all pay their own rent, council tax and utility bill and everything else.
The migrants all work all the hours under the sun while the english only work their 40 hours. I have 11 english drivers but they only work 40/45 hours a week, while the foreigners will work 60/70 hours a week!
The foreigners save their money while the english are spending theirs in the pub every night!

I dont understand this "the forigners are taking all our jobs."

Why did the english not take these jobs before the forigners were brought in?

And voting for the BNP...well... that really is the answer to all our problems!

                      THE TRUTH
                      The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

Yes and its people like yourself that put the british out of Jobs.

Im not complaining both myself and the wife earn decent salarys and have a mortgage etc.

Companys like yourself milk from the foreign workers who work for peanuts and work all hours.

You only care about production and boosting profit margins for yourself.

                        I ask you a question?

If you never ran a business would you work 60-70 hours a week on minimum wage.?

You take advantage of people who think 5.70 an hour is a lot of money.

Maybe this is why students share housing wherever they go whilst holding down a job as well??

I was an HGV driver and my normal week was 60 hours. I started at 8.50 an hour but when the company could get cheaper drivers we were offered to take less pay or our hours be cut.

The 20 hours overtime i done was paid into someone elses pocket but i dont think it was paid in time and half.

This was a big firm in Grangemouth Scotland and within 2 months we were back on our overtime due to time lost, deliveries not made on time and accident damage loss to the company.

Yes that nearly 70 grand a year in 1 household.
Any couple on this would easily have a great life.

NO, they dont HAVE to work 60/70 hours a week, its their choice, the option is available to both english and foreign workers to work any available overtime over their 40 hours.

All the workers bar 3 are self employed and at the end of the week all these people earn almost the same as per the hours they put in and its well over the minimum wage.

Someone who works say 60hrs a week, is obviously going to earn more than the person who only works 40hrs a week.

So why Criticise someone for not working 70 hours a week then ? It's obvious you don't like the lazy British worker because he only works 40 -45 hours a week. Well he should only have to work 35 hours a week and be able to live comfortably on his wages. I doubt very much your employees are in the pub every night when they drive for a living too.

BUT what shall one do if the british workers dont want to work this job?

Companys like yourself milk from the foreign workers who work for peanuts and work all hours.

WRONG! ALL workers english and migrants earn almost the same as per the hours they put in. The average income of all these workers before their expenses is about ?500 to ?1000 per week. If you think that is peanuts then so be it.

You only care about production and boosting profit margins for yourself.

WRONG! I dont produce anything, I provide a service

                              I ask you a question?

If you never ran a business would you work 60-70 hours a week on minimum wage.?

I have worked 60/70hrs a week for less than the minimum wage!
(this was before the min wage came into force)

You take advantage of people who think 5.70 an hour is a lot of money.

WRONG! The average rate of earning for the workers is ?12.00ph

Maybe this is why students share housing wherever they go whilst holding down a job as well??

That is their choice, you live within your means. This is down to the government and not because of an employer/migrants.

                              Very nice figures...Total income ?10,104.84 x6
Do you really think that ?10,104.84 a year is good money?
And what about all their costs and expenses from this
                              ?10,104.84.

Yes that nearly 70 grand a year in 1 household.
Any couple on this would easily have a great life.
YES my friend BUT they are "WORKING" for that money and NOT sponging off the state.
And that 3 familys you are talking about (3 couples)
Just because you share a house that dont mean you are going to share your money as well!
