    London's black cabs go electric

The first electric black taxis have arrived on the capital's roads as the London mayor pushes to improve air quality.

It is hoped more than 9,000 of the £55,599 cabs will be in service by 2021.

The TX can travel 80 miles on a single battery charge and is fitted with a 1.5 litre petrol engine to assist longer journeys. The cab has six seats, contactless card machines, Wifi and USB charging.

The London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) says it will save drivers on average £100 in fuel a week.

It is hoped the electric taxis will improve air quality but critics say the cost will put drivers off.

For £55,000 new cab will take owners 15 years to get his money back providing the cab will last that long without any horrors…in long run who will benefit?

80 miles around London? that will take around 10 hours at the average speed of traffic central London. Done during the night when lights are needed it'll be even less. So they've probably aimed it it being recharged every 8 hour shift. More use of electricity to drive up demand, and so drive up the cost of electricity to everyone, not just taxi drivers. It's a scam and the public, who are paying, need to wake up.

Despite the cost of living, it's still very popular.

But all you're doing is moving from direct fossil fuel use to indirect fossil fuel use, so doesn't do anything other than drive up the demand and price of electricity to meet the governments wholesale target price of £94 per KW.

Frogs don't need to, Tessie already signed the deal that will see the wholesale price double by the time Hinkley comes online, backed by taxpayers cash one way or another.

Gas I said LIKE hinkley the frogs and the chinalongs will sell us even more useless power stations cos we will pay big bucks for them! Once-upon-a-time we use to lead the technology in NP. I'm not saying NP is the best way since its a long lead in time before the first concrete is poured and the electricity power increase will be far quicker than any new power station are available. So the big question is when will our very smart MP's realise the f'd up big time

Assuming we have any smart mp's they are all yes men and women Anyway back to electricity and taxi as has been explained this vehicle is just a way of putting every hack driver into debt or from now on constant payment plan. So no benefit there then. 80 miles is an absolute joke for a public hire vehicle so if some person needs a longer journey you say go get private hire who buy cheap as chips cars while you pay top dollar for what? So no benefit there also. What are we going to do with all these batteries eventually? Landfill more toxic waste? As has been said already they have a glut of renewable now and it's time for us to start paying for something else. At £40k a charging station who pays? certainly not them. Anyway I have a mate who is test driving one of these in a nice hilly city I'll let you know how he get's on. I should've mentioned in case someone says use petrol engine for longer journeys it is an added extra so I don't know final total of buying one yet.

They a;ready know, but will never admit it, 'cos they can never admit being or doing anything wrong.
