20mph limit is more dangerous but too costly to reverse, council admits

Reducing the speed limit to 20mph has caused a rise in death and serious injuries, a council has admitted, but is refusing to reverse the scheme because it will cost too much.

Bath and North East Somerset Council spent £871,000 bringing in the 13 new speed zones just 12 months ago.

But one year on, a report has found that the rate of people killed or seriously injured has gone up in seven out of the 13 new 20mph zones.

Despite the council's own report concluding that there is "little in the way of persuasive argument for continuing the programme in the future", deputy leader Patrick Anketell-Jones has admitted there simply isn't the money available to reverse the 20mph zones.

The Conservative councillor said: "It has cost over £800,000 to roll out the 20mph zone and it would probably cost the same to reverse them.

Obvious to me! Motorists are spending too much time looking at the speedo instead of out the windows and pedestrians are spending too much time looking at their phone instead of looking where they are walking I could of given the council and all the other councils that information for a consultation fee of a mere £80,000 a bargain!
Unfortunately these are merely money making scheme pretending to be for our good. When will council realise they are public servants and when we realise we can sack them all for misconduct and fraud in public service which is a serious crime

But the only choice we actually have is to not vote for them at the next election and vote for some other self interested ahole who will do the same and act in their own best interests. Same with MP's.

But if that was done all of the hangers on like charities and those that carry out their marketing campaigns wouldn't be making any money. Think of the poor directors of those charities. In the financial year 2012/13, Oxfam's chief executive was paid £119,560, not enough to even fuel up his/her company Bentley properly.

It just confirms that councillors, government and police are in favour of speeding that they can come up with a conclusion that 20mph has caused rise in accidents. I’d like to see their evidence that the injuries resulting from a collision at 20mph are more series than at 30mph.

Rumours told the pedestrians can not hear car coming at 20 mph and for that reason they get run over, has any one got run over under the tractor no because they are noisy.
