    FURY AT 99P PINT

PUB chain JD Wetherspoon has sparked outrage among health campaigners by slashing the price of a pint to 99p.
The company, which has more than 750 pubs around Britain, is also holding a sale on wine and gin for a two-week period starting today.
The move comes despite warnings that the UK?s booze problem is out of control.
Think-tank Policy Exchange said New Year?s Eve alone cost the NHS ?23million.
But Wetherspoons, founded by Tim Martin, 54, said: ?Already the best value in town, we are making sure that you can enjoy some even bigger savings at our sale.
?There?s something for everyone with top-brand drinks and value meals.?
But Don Shenker, of Alcohol Concern, said: ?Alcohol is not an ordinary commodity like bread or milk, it causes harm to the nation?s health and economy.?
Last week it emerged that drink puts almost a million people a year in hospital.

its great that wetherspoons have a jan sales period as well as the shops, survival for a chain in the present climate is all about turning over vast amounts of cash so if this is their way then fair play to em! they dont force feed anyone the beer they simply supply it at a reasonable price, so if drinking is putting a strain on the nhs its not wetherspoons fault its the punters for not going home after his/her quota i bet the government dont complain at the tax that they get from them which prob goes towards propping the nhs up anyway
