KRAFT WILL AXE 400 JOBS AT CADBURY

another british company down the pan, they only just took over and 400 jobs have gone, and thats just the begining, and all the money the gov will be losing in taxes etc

CADBURY?S new American owner will close a UK factory by next year with the loss up to 400 jobs, it announced yesterday.

kraft foods will shift chocolate production to Poland before shutting down the plant in Somerdale, Somerset.
Workers believed last month?s ?11.5billion hostile takeover would throw them a lifeline.
But Kraft chief executive Irene Rosenfeld said despite the original intentions, halting the closure was ?unrealistic?.
The Unite union?s national officer Jennie Formby said: ?Promises were made which appear now to have been a cynical attempt to curry favour during what was an extremely unwelcome and unpopular takeover.?
In Luton, car giant Vauxhall is to shed 154 administrative jobs.
Welsh Water is planning to axe 300 jobs during the next five years, while drugs giant GlaxoSmithKline is cutting 380 research posts in Harlow, Essex.

Cadbury`s have a plant here in Dublin and apart from any job losses should they pull the plug here there will also be the loss of the Irish Cadbury`s taste, which IS creamier. I could tell you by taste alone if the product was made in Ireland or Britain. I used to scoff at a recent past ad of Cadbury`s where the logo was `THE TASTE IS CHOCOLATE-THE CHOCOLATE IS CADBURYS.

Another British business now owned/operated by a foreigh country. Just like most major British businesses that have gone to foreigh hands, factory/shop closures, job loses will always soon follow.

Every company has to make unpopular decisions to survive in tough times but PROFIT always comes first.

Even after giving insurances that the factory will not be closed, the powers to be have now gone back on their word and decided to close the factory with a loss of 400 jobs.

Now that the Americans are the legal owners, there is nothing the general public or the government can do to stop this process and as Kraft make more and more profit with overseas factorys, more and more UK factories/jobs will be slashed.
Nowonder this country is in such a sorry state!

Kraft have invested ?100 million on new buildings in Poland, so why cant they do that in UK instead?
SLOWLY, OUR FREEDOM IS BEING ERASED.
SOON, WE WILL JUST BE A NUMBER.
IF WE DON'T FOLLOW, WE WILL BE ERASED.

Disgraceful, they should be made to honour their pledge to keep the factory in Britain, you can move the factory but you cant take the quality of the workforce with you.

just gotta say, I live about a mile from the Keynsham Cadburys factory and I'm gutted - they've already said they will turn it into a bloody housing developement - only 2 things piss me off about that - firstly, The factory is beautiful - it has art deco towers (Im no architecture buff, its just nice to look at!). And theres Kingfishers all along the river that runs in front of it.
secondly, where the hell are all the people moving into the development going to work? Keynsham isn't a big town and everybody is linked to someone who worked/works at fry's, theres already going to be a massive shortage of jobs in the town.
grrr, sorry to vent my rage!!

Nestle closed down a chocolate crumb factory in this Ireland and moved it abroad. I had a sweet tooth for KitKat chunky at the time and never bought one since or indeed any other of their products. I also remember when Nestla took over Rowntrees a customer complaining that the Rolo pack was now 1 Rolo short and making a pun on their `Would you give anyone your last Rolo`. We cant stop them closing but we can vote with our mouths, Keep an eye on the weights on their products in the future as the punter always pays.
