80S MUSIC IS TOP OF THE POPS

THE 1980s has been hailed as the best musical decade of the last 50 years.

According to 11,000 music fans across Europe, the hits of the era eclipsed those of any since 1960.
This is largely thanks to events such as Live Aid and the recent resurgence of bands like Spandau Ballet and Duran Duran.
But others still refer to it as the decade that taste forgot, thanks to the dodgy fashions worn by acts such as Madonna, now 51.
Even singing footballers Glenn Hoddle, now 52, and Chris Waddle, 49, had hits in the 80s.
But the current crop of pop favourites like Lady GaGa, 23, and Little Boots, 25, have still been heavily influenced by the decade. Second place in the poll went to the 90s with 25% of the vote, then the 70s with 23%.
Surprisingly, only 19% named the Beatles-led 60s as their favourite decade and a mere 2% said it was the 2000s. Digital channel Music Choice, which carried out the poll, also asked people what they thought the most important music event of the past 30 years was.
in first place came the 1985 charity concert, Live Aid.
The launch of downloadable music and the iPod and the deaths of Michael Jackson and John Lennon completed the top five events.
Music Choice?s head of music Kevin Spector said: ?The fact the 80s has proven so influential to so many people is certainly an indication of how much we value the heritage of that music.
?In comparison to 30 years ago ? when the only access people had to music was via cassette tapes, records, radio or television ? we can now find our favourite golden tracks any time, at the touch of a button.?

Those 11,000 pollsters were probably in the younger generation category and with the revival of the 80`s music it would have given them an insight to the music of the era and also the fashion trends, which can also influence choices. We tend to be pleased/annoyed by these polls but to determine the validity of the results, you would want to know who or what created the poll -Radio/web/teen oriented /general audience etc. In the end we all have our own favourites regardless of whether it makes us hip or bof.
