DRIVERS BASHED BY HIKE IN PETROL

PETROL prices have rocketed to 115p a litre ? a huge 27% higher than 12 months ago.

The RAC reckons the annual cost of filling up is now ?264 more than it was in March last year when the average price was around 90.7p a litre.
The motoring oerganisation blamed spiralling wholesale prices along with three separate tax rises over the 12 months.
First came a 1.84p fuel duty rise last April, followed by a further 2p increase in September.
Then on January 1 this year VAT went back to 17.5% ? a 2.5% rise that put around a further 2.5p on a litre.
On April 1 there is another rise in store as fuel duty goes up in line with inflation plus 1p.
RAC motoring strategist Adrian Tink said: ?The tough year for motorists continues unabated with petrol prices constantly spiralling upwards.
?The extra cost of filling up is making a huge dent in already-stretched family budgets.
?The Government needs to take a close look at the proposed fuel duty rise in April. When this was announced in last year?s Budget, petrol prices were well below ?1 a litre.?

don't know what the yanks are moaning at.. they are charged $3.07 (?2.02) for a gallon..

I currently pay ?1.16 for a litre, a gallon by mine would cost ?5.22 (which equals $7.93)

The yanks should think themselves lucky
