    FIRST 3D TV SET ON SALE IN BRITAIN

    THE TV age moves into the next dimension today as the first 3D televisions go on sale in Britain.
    Electrical giant Samsung is to startselling the sets from ?1,799.
    Retailers stocking the screens willinclude Comet, Currys and John Lewis.
    Viewers will need to wear the Samsung Active Shutter 3D glasses to transform thepicture on screen.
    Football will now be available in 3D ? sogoals scored during the World Cup will be on view from every angle.
    Consumer analysts Generator Researchpredict that by 2014 the market share for 3Dsets will be more than 39% and sales will be worth more than ?100billion.
    Samsung?s Andy Griffi ths said: ?We aredelighted to be the first to bring 3D TV toUK homes. Once you?ve seen a programmein 3D you will be hooked.
    ?It creates a more immersive viewingexperience and with the plethora of 3Dcontent currently being developed, it?s a great time to watch TV in a newdimension.?
    The TVs also have the ability to convert normal 2D content, allowing users to startenjoying their favourite movies, TV shows, sporting events and even computer games in the new format.
    But they will also be compatible withSky?s 3D service launching later this yearwith a range of movies, arts, entertainmentand sport.
    Film makers including Dreamworks are also jumping on board and installing 3D cameras into their studios.
    The TV is available alone or as a packagecomplete with a Samsung 3D Blu-ray player and two pairs of the special glasses.
    The bundle comes with a 3D version ofthe movie Monsters v Aliens.
    The line-up includes models with LED, LCD and plasma screens from 40 to 65in. An increasing number of 3D games willbe available on Blu-ray later this year.
