SALES of a lower alcohol version of Stella Artois have rocketed by 130%.
The 4% version ? a fifth less than the 5.0% standard lager ? saw the biggest growth of any alcohol brand in the past year.
It has helped brewer InBev distance itself from the anti-social behaviour association of the stronger beer, nicknamed Wifebeater.
The sales increase of Stella Artois 4%, revealed in a survey for trade magazine The Grocer, made its maker an extra ?36.4million.
InBev president Stuart MacFarlane said: ?On the ?Wifebeater? term, we have faced up to it.
?We have accepted that it?s a potential drag on the brand, and looked to address that.
